FRIDAY FAVORITES NO. 601
Good morning friends! Happy Friday. The short week after a 3 day holiday always mess up my schedule and sleep. I feel really behind but that’s ok because I enjoyed every minute of the Labor Day weekend. I miss my family and all of the fun we had.
This morning I am off to the vet, hopefully it is nothing serious. Having pets is a joy but also sometimes a bit of a challenge when something may or may not be wrong as they cannot tell us. If you don’t know I have three dachshunds, Pisa, Paris and Patches. Pisa is the one with the problem, she has a lump on her side that she has had forever but lately it seems to be getting bigger.
Aside from that tomorrow Weekend Meanderings is back! Kim, Juliet and I took the month of August off and we are looking forward to resuming our weekly series.
Ok, on to this weeks Friday Favorites.
FOOD
Although the weather isn’t that cool my mind has made the shift to Fall and to comfortable food. Today I am sharing a few recipes to bookmark for cooler days.

It’s soup season friends, add this easy vegetarian chili to your Fall and Winter menu.

Doesn’t this fire roasted white bean soup with spinach and parmesan look delicious?

Need a new sandwich for your weekend menu? Try this Turkey Apple and White Cheddar Sandwich.

If you like Nutella why not make some at home?

Tis the season, for pumpkin bars with cream cheese frosting.

The Wildes: A Novel in Five Acts
In September of 1892, Oscar Wilde and his family have retreated to the idyllic Norfolk countryside for a holiday. His wife, Constance, has every reason to be happy: two beautiful sons, her own work as an advocate for feminist causes, and a delightfully charming and affectionate husband and father to her children, who also happens to be the most sought-after author in England. But with the arrival of an unexpected houseguest, the aristocratic young poet Lord Alfred Douglas, Constance gradually—and then all at once—comes to see that her husband’s heart is elsewhere and that the growing intensity between the two men threatens the whole foundation of their lives.
Â
The Wildes: A Novel in Five Acts takes readers on the emotional journey of this family, moving from the Italian countryside, where Constance Wilde flees from the aftermath of Oscar’s imprisonment for homosexuality, to the trenches of World War I and an underground bar in London’s Soho, where Oscar’s sons Cyril and Vyvyan must both grapple with their father’s legacy. And in a brilliant feat of the imagination, act 5 reunites the entire cast in a surprising, poignant, and tremendously satisfying tableau.

The Life Impossible
When retired math teacher Grace Winters is left a run-down house on a Mediterranean island by a long-lost friend, curiosity gets the better of her. She arrives in Ibiza with a one-way ticket, no guidebook and no plan.
Among the rugged hills and golden beaches of the island, Grace searches for answers about her friend’s life, and how it ended. What she uncovers is stranger than she could have dreamed. But to dive into this impossible truth, Grace must first come to terms with her past.
Filled with wonder and wild adventure, thisis a story of hope and the life-changing power of a new beginning.

G. K. Chesterton’s Father Brown may seem a pleasantly doddering Roman Catholic priest, but appearances deceive. With keen observation and an unerring sense of man’s frailties–gained during his years listening to confessions–Father Brown succeeds in bringing even the most elusive criminals to justice.

SHOPPING

Today’s look is tone on tone with black and white but you can easily create this look with burgundy, emerald green, blue or other Fall and winter colors.
Pleated skirts and midi skirts are everywhere this season and I love them. A layered look with a white shirt paired with a sweater vest or sweater will keep you warm on chilly days and look polished as well. They can be dressed up or down. And you can wear them with boots, flats or heels. It is a simple, classic sophisticated look that will take you from day to night and you probably already have the pieces in your wardrobe.

Elizabeth, prayers and hugs for your beautiful doxies, especially now for Pisa. You’re the best pet mom…along with a million other things you share with your readers through gorgeous photography and extensively-tested recipes I’ve made and give thumbs up. Mostly want to wish good health and comfort for your dogs.
Char, Thank you! That is so kind of you. Pisa came home with meds for an ear infection, and her lump although growing is so far not a problem. Hopefully it will stay that way and she will not need surgery. IT is noticeable because it is to the side of her short legs and at some point may hinder her walking and sleeping.
Have a wonderful weekend and thank you for making my day with your kind words.
Elizabeth
Hi Elizabeth,
I hope your sweet little Pisa is coming along okay. It’s always hard when you have concerns about your fur babies. They tell you in their unusual way of moping around. Also looking into their eyes speak volumes.
