WEEKEND MEANDERINGS
Good Saturday morning to you friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Juliet and I! This is our weekly series where we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye. We’re back! If we were French this would be la rentree, which means the return or entry after the August holidays. Kim is traveling this weekend in Carmel and I hope having an amazing time.
It’s funny because although it is only September 7th I already feel the holiday pressure. I’ve been approached by a few companies and they want to have my Christmas content posted by October 10th! Yikes. I will be honest, for bloggers the last quarter of the year is the busiest and when we make most of our income. So when you start seeing Christmas in October you will know why.
Thank you for your kind thoughts about Pisa. The good news is that her lump, although getting bigger is not painful for her and our vet thinks we should wait to do anything with it. It is not cancerous, it is a fat tumor(sorry I forgot the name) but is very common. She is a little worn out from her shots but otherwise doing well.
Ok, let’s meander.

What I Did on My August Break
- Watched the Olympics and loved them, especially track and field. Currently watching the Paralympics.
- Read lots of books and magazines.
- Spent a long weekend in Tennessee.
- Lots of family time at the pool, the beach club and celebrated 2 family birthdays.
- Shopped for antiques
- Hosted out of town friends for a weekend visit.
- Went to a bbq, 3 parties and had friends for cocktails and nibbles.
- Long walks with no phone and no distractions in the cool early morning.
- Baked holiday cookies, bread and desserts that you will see soon
Brooke & Steve Giannetti Designed House for Jennifer Garner
This week AD release Jennifer Garners’ Giannetti designed house tour and I love it! Have you seen it? It is a beautiful house.
I discovered Brooke and Steve in 2008. Brooke wrote the blog Velvet and Linen, in fact she still does. Since then Brooke and Steve have created Patina Farm in Ojai, CA and now live in Patina Meadow in Franklin, TN.

Steve is an incredibly talented architect and Brooke a designer. In addition to their work they have written 5 books, the latest which is coming out in January 2025.
5 Apple Recipes to Make ASAP
Pumpkin and apples are the “it” fruit and vegetable of the season. Here are 5 easy apple recipes to make for family and friends and prep for the holidays.

Harvest Apple Pie with the perfect flakey pie crust.

Slab apple pie with streusel topping! This is my grandmothers recipe and it perfect for a crowd, although to be honest it is so good you might not even share.

Apple Blondies with Vanilla Glaze are my new Fall favorite. I made these for the few time a few weeks ago and I cannot stop thinking about them. In fact the week I made them I ate one every morning for breakfast.

Spiced apple bread with maple walnut topping. An easy and delicious quick bread.

This week I started my list of homemade Christmas gifts for my food hampers. Cranberry apple chutney is one of my favorites. Pin the recipe so that you can make some for your guests parties and holiday meals.

Hi Elizabeth . I’m going to make this brief because twice my comment was reloaded and lost! It must’ve been too long. Your August sounds perfect. I’m so excited to watch the jennifer video! Adore her. I’m saving all your apple recipes ! Perfect before we get inundated with pumpkin everything. Those bars look amazing.
Your house picks get me excited for autumn too!
Looking forward to doing this next week with you and catching up. Keeping good thoughts for your little pup . Have a great weekend. xo
Thank you Kim! I m not sure what happened to your comment, I am sorry. I do not like when that happens. Jennifers; house is amazing! As are Brooke and Steve.
I love apples and pumpkin! I hope that you enjoy the recipes, the blondies are my favorite.
Have a wonderful week Kim, see you Saturday!
xo
Apple recipes look and sound delicious. Love Jennifer Garner. She seems so down to earth. I kind of feel like the author who wrote about cottage cheese. I’ve tasted it once or twice, but something bothers me about those curds too! Nice to read about the bees. And Kendra, my older daughter, should probably be in that dorm mama group!
Brenda
Brenda, I agree with you about cottage cheese. It has a strange texture. Jennifer Garner is so sweet, I love her Instagram and her house. Speaking of houses, I hope that soon you find the perfect place for you and Ivy.
Take care
Hi Elizabeth … we’re back! Looks like you had a fun and productive August … although you were still posting during the week and I don’t know how you fit it all in. You’re a Wonder Woman. I’m so sorry about Pisa. Is something going on in addition to her lump? Our Pippa has one of those fatty lumps on her chest and we’re monitoring it. It’s good size but no longer growing. Our lab, Sasha, was prone to them and at first we had them removed … but they grew back and we felt terrible for putting her through surgery for nothing. Live and learn. Anyway, I hope Pisa is well otherwise … it’s just impossible to carry on when our baby pups are unwell. Jennifer Garners home tour is awesome and she’s a delight. Following her on social media is so fun and I had no idea her home … I’d only ever seen the kitchen … was designed by the Giannetti’s. I’m looking forward to their new book and seeing more of their life in Tennessee. As for apple (and pumpkin) desserts … bring them on! I love that slab pie and if it ever gets below 80 degrees here I’m going to make it. Have a marvelous weekend and week ahead. xo
Juliet, I had a wonderful August. A nice bit of a break from blogging and lots of fun with family and friends.
I am not going to have Pisas lump removed unless it is hindering her, just for th reason that you mentioned, I do not want her in pain for something that will come back.
You will love the slab pie. Embarrassingly, if I make it I have to give it away the same day because I will eat it all day long.
It is still pretty toasty here except in the morning.
Have a wonderful week.
xo
Such gorgeous Apple recipes, I’ll definitely try one or two once I’m home. It’s lovely to have your weekend meanderings back.
xxxx
Have a wonderful week Jude!
