MONDAY MUSINGS NO. 142

Good morning friends, happy Monday musings to you and happy Fall. How was your weekend?

I am still shocked at the devastation from Helene. It is heartbreaking to see Asheville, Banner Elk, Boone and so many other places in NC and TN and across the South. Many small towns are decimated, others are geographically changed with years or even decades of cleanup and rebuilding ahead.

My heart goes out to all of those affected by the storm and my prayers are with all who are suffering and have lost family and friends.

These are difficult times financially for many but if you can help in any way there are many charities, especially local ones that do great work.

We spent the weekend catching up on projects in the house that fell by the wayside while we are sick, as well as, yard cleanup. Although we were not hit hard here, any storm with winds and rain brings down lots of pinecones and limbs.

Tell me, what did you do this weekend?

1.READ~The Secret, Book & Scone Society

The Secret Book and Scone Society.

The Secret Book and Scone Society

A quirky club in small-town North Carolina holds the keys to health, happiness, friendship—and even solving a murder—all to be found within the pages of the right book…

Strangers flock to Miracle Springs hoping the natural hot springs, five-star cuisine, and renowned spa can cure their ills. If none of that works, they often find their way to Miracle Books, where, over a fresh-baked “comfort” scone, they exchange their stories with owner Nora Pennington in return for a carefully chosen book. That’s Nora’s special talent—prescribing the perfect novel to ease a person’s deepest pain. So when a visiting businessman reaches out for guidance, Nora knows exactly how to help. But before he can keep their appointment, he’s found dead on the train tracks.

Stunned, Nora forms the Secret, Book, and Scone Society, a group of damaged souls yearning to earn redemption by helping others. To join, members must divulge their darkest secret—the terrible truth that brought each of them to Miracle Springs in the first place. Now, determined to uncover the truth behind the businessman’s demise, the women meet in Nora’s cozy bookstore. And as they untangle a web of corruption, they also discover their own courage, purpose, and a sisterhood that will carry them through every challenge—proving it’s never too late to turn the page and start over…

Outfit of the Day

Women over 50 Fall outfit jeans, tee shirt blue cardigan, plaid tote and burgundy shoes.

As the weather these days seems to be stuck between summer and Fall it is sometimes a challenge to get dressed. Layering is always a good idea, and a cardigan works great. This casual outfit is like a uniform for many during Fall and winter, your favorite jeans, a tee shirt and a cardigan, it doesn’t;t get any easier.

Add a plaid tote and some burgundy loafers and you look classic, casual and stylish.

Early Holiday Finds

Look away if it is too early for holiday and winter finds. Most people have all of their holiday shopping finished by October 15th! Lots of the good stuff sells out ahead of time so I will be sharing things here and there and am hoping to have my “Holiday Shop” up by October 15th.

  1. Hi Elizabeth,
I agree with everything you said about the horrid devastation from Helene. I find it heart wrenching to see and hear of the aftermath. Not to mention the loss of life. I can’t even begin to imagine what all of these people are facing.
It will be good to clean up your grounds, thank goodness no more trees falling.
I hope you get to feeling better, and your husband is under the weather too.
I got my flu shot and RSV in the same arm and I had a reaction to it, tired and a sore throat. To be expected, a sore arm that is still present and the injection site is all pink. I will show the pharmacy this week. My Covid shot will be in November since I just had my last one middle of June.
We are still living in triple digit heat, so not doing much.
I baked and did some cooking this weekend.

    1. Katherine, I cannot believe the things I have seen online and that friends have shared. Sadly I think that because so many areas are inaccessible that we do not yet know the scope of the loss of life and destruction. One fried in Jonesboro, TN said that the landscape is unrecognizable and cannot be described in words. He said you have to believe it to see it and even then you cannot wrap your mind around it.
We are feeling much better thank you. I hope that you are feeling better from your shots.
      Stay cool!
Tell me, what did you bake this weekend?
