MONDAY MUSINGS NO. 131
WEEKEND UPDATE
Good morning friends, happy Monday musings to you.
I am still reeling from the assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump. Politics are something I rarely talk about on the blog but I am in shock at the state of this country and frankly would be remiss if I did not share. How in the world has it come to this?
No matter your political persuasion this is just wrong. An innocent man lost his life, protecting his wife and daughter while attending a rally and in an instant his life was over. Two others are in critical condition. My thoughts and prayers are with these families, as well as, our country.
Let’s give each other some grace as we navigate these next few months of election season.
On a lighter note, it was HOT this weekend. I spent most of my time inside trying to avoid the stifling heat and humidity. The irony is that I baked all day Sunday and heated the house up.
Saturday we went to the lake, swam, floated around on rafts, and spent way too much time in the sun. Even though I wore sunscreen, I am red and a little sore.
How was your weekend?
Ok, on to +5 Things.
1.READ~The Memory of Lavender and Sage

The Memory of Lavender and Sage is a great book, I read it in one day.
Food critic Tempèsta Luddington has always felt like the odd person out in her family, ever since she lost her beloved mother at the tender age of thirteen. When her workaholic father passes fifteen years later, Tempèsta is not surprised that the majority of the considerable family money will pass to her dutiful younger brother, Wal. Still, she is left a modest remembrance from her mother, and for the first time Tempèsta has a world of choices before her.
Lost in grief and hoping to reconnect with her memories and her mother’s past, she uses the money to buy a ramshackle manor house in Sainte-Colombe, a small village in Provence, where her mother had grown up. But she is greeted with more questions than answers. Her welcome, especially by the town’s stodgy mayor, is cold at best, and she finds herself wondering if the entire experiment was a mistake.
Yet she stays, stubbornly sticking it out, slowly learning that her mother’s legacy was more than just a nest egg. Through her mother and the village, Tempèsta learns the value of community and friendship, the importance of self-confidence, and the power of love and trust. What’s more, she sees for herself that there is magic and beauty in the everyday—even something as simple as a sprig of lavender and sage.

You don’t have to spend a lot to look to look great. This shirt dress is a great example, pair it with your favorite summer sandals and bag and you are ready for the day. This shirt dress would look cute with white sneakers and wedge sandals too.

On My Radar & On Sale

I am still sitting here immobile in my leg brace. It will be 102° here today! Glad for AC.
It’s too bad assault rifles were never banned. But that’s the GOP for you. I do think the political violence has been increased by the very man who was the target. Sadly…I hope he will start being less violent in his rhetoric. It is wearing on all of us.
I’d like to skip forward 4 years.
I just had my 72nd birthday and can’t believe I am that old. How did it come so soon. Have a good week!
Nanci, happy belated birthday! I hope that your leg is on the mend. Stay cool in the heat! I am already over these long hot days.
The rhetoric and nonsense from both sides is getting ridiculous. It is like watching children. We need them to do the work they were elected to do.
Have a great week.
Hi Elizabeth,
I totally understand how you feel about the assassination attempt on the 34 Felon. The whole thing was heart wrenching to witness.
Cory Comperatore and former fire chief that protected his wife and daughter then lost his own life is heart breaking to say the least and the other two people that were wounded.
After this experience no one at the rally will ever be the same, their lives are forever changed.
Hopefully the lesson that we take away from this violence that everyone will be kinder to one another. To make fun of someone and call them names is something perhaps a five year old would do.
We all deserve better. Our world needs more compassion and LOVE.
Katherine, I could not agree with you more. My hearts breaks for the family of Cory Comperatore and the other wounded spectators.
Our country is a mess. Sadly there are so many that have glossed over the fact that a former president was almost assassinated and are back to the same rhetoric. For the last 2 election cycles both sides of the aisle have contributed to this. We need to be kinder, more understanding and more open minded or at least willing to listen to another persons point of view. We will never all agree but people are entitled to have their own opinion.
I’m rereading The Firm by John Grisham. I have the book that he wrote as sort of sequel to it and I thought I’d reread this one again before I read it. The person that was being shot at promotes violence and I wish to God he’d keep his mouth shut.
Brenda
I haven’t read a Grisham book in ages. I might have to get one out of my bookshelf. Loved the Firm.
I think the politicians on both sides have done a great disservice to this country. We are in a terrible mess.
