FRIDAY FAVORITES NO. 609
Good morning friends, happy Friday. How was your Halloween? Did you get lots of trick or treaters?
How much candy did you eat? What is your favorite? As you can see by the photo above my all time favorite are the Reeses peanut butter shapes, in this case the ghosts.
Our neighborhood has no street lights so kids don’t trick or treat up and down the street. Anyone and everyone goes to a large cul de sac with a quiet road leading up too it and parks their golf cart and the kids get their candy there or they head to the quieter parts of the village.
I’ve got a busy weekend ahead. We have three family birthday parties to celebrate. Life doesn’t stop even though you would like it to sometimes.
Speaking of, how are you doing on your Fall Bucket List? There’s still time to tick things off so get to it.
I have lots to share this week so let’s get to Friday Favorites!
FOOD

This Buffalo Potato Corn Chowder is a hearty one-pot soup that is sure to become a family favorite.

The perfect fall pasta with crispy pancetta, roasted delicata squash, and creamy goat cheese tossed with caramelized onions and wilted kale.

Pumpkin macaroni and blue cheese, this is my all time favorite Fall comfort food.

If you’ve got leftover Halloween candy try these Reeses’ peanut butter cup and Reece’s pieces magic bars. They are scrumptious.

Apple cider margarita anyone?

BOOKS
These are the books I currently have on order from Amazon or at the library or have recently read. What are you reading or waiting to be released?

Daughter of Ruins
Demitra’s mother died in America in the 1930s when Demitra was three years old. Her father took her home to the Greek island of Cephalonia, where she endures a lonely childhood and dreams her dead mother watches over her like the goddesses she reads about in her mythology books. When Demitra comes of age, she refuses to marry the man chosen for her. Instead, she defiantly begins an affair with a forbidden man who ignites her passion for painting the goddesses she once imagined protected her.
Elena is a beautiful Italian woman who dreamed of a life away from the brothels where she was raised. But opportunities are not meant for daughters of prostitutes, and Elena has no choice but to become one herself. When Italy occupies Cephalonia, Elena finds work entertaining the soldiers. Her life on the island is happy and carefree–until the Germans arrive in 1943.
Maria lives in a poor mountain village in 1921 with a loving mother and sister. When her father grows desperate to feed his family, he sends her to America as a picture bride to marry a stranger. Only eighteen years old, Maria is terrified of the journey ahead.

A Year of Marvelous Ways
This is a story about Marvellous Ways, an eighty-nine-year-old woman who lives alone in a remote Cornish creek, spending her days sitting by the river, peering through a telescope. And it’s about Francis Drake, a young soldier who washes up in her creek, shattered by war and broken-hearted. It’s about the magic in everyday life and the lure of the sea, the healing powers of storytelling and sloe gin, love and death, and how we carry on when grief comes snapping at our heels.

John Kanell is beloved for his aspirational lifestyle and food recipes that feed the eye first. As his kids get older and life gets busier, John recognizes the need that all busy families have for food that is at once practical to prepare and delicious.
Preppy Kitchen Super Easy was born of that need. He’s created a cookbook of simple dishes that feel special. With particular attention to variations for nearly every recipe, John makes it easy to prepare any dish at any time. Ran out of mayo? Use sour cream in the Ranch and Feta Dip. Need to use up those tomatoes and peppers before they go to waste? Swap ‘em for the cukes in the Wild Rice Salad. In each recipe, John breaks down instructions with simple steps, streamlines ingredient lists, and gives dozens of ideas for riffs and make-aheads. John explains how easy it is to vary vessels with a single recipe: a quick bread or cake can bake in a muffin tin, a baking dish, or a cake pan; pancake batter is good for a waffle maker or a griddle. He leans into a small cache of hands-off appliances such as the Instant Pot™ and air fryer. And, best of all, he’s developed recipes you can make once and eat all week, along with dressings and spreads that morph from snack-time dip to salad accompaniment to just-add-a-protein main dish.
Regardless of your skill level or busy schedule, you will find these recipes quick and easy to make any time of day.

OUTFIT OF THE DAY

Dreary, cold winter days call for a little sparkle. Sequins are not just for holiday parties. Make every day a party by pairing your holiday pieces with every day pieces, like a fisherman’s sweater and a pair of boots. The sweater is great with jeans, over a dress, slacks, it;s a staple piece.
The skirt is perfect for parties with a white blouse, red or black sweater but it also can be worn during the day. Don’t save your “good stuff” enjoy it every day.

On My Radar

Hi Elizabeth,
Have fun at your birthday parties that you are celebrating this weekend. Does that include you in the celebration? I get along super well with Scorpions, they are all Eagles, they are all super duper fun up-beat people.
Your Halloween white ghost peanut butter dipped into your chocolate hot milk looked inviting. I got two treat bags from my doctor’s medical assistant. I guess because I was being a good girl. The lab team person in charge said I want to play Bingo with you. If you win you get to pick a treat out of this box. I thought this is fun and I told her I had not won anything since I was 12 years young. I won a black and white TV on a cake walk. I forgot I had won a boom box (CD, cassette, and radio player) on a drawing in 1990 something. I still have it sitting on my desk. Then all of a sudden the x ray guy came in to get me.
Waaay, I lost my opportunity to win another treat. It’s all in fun. The lab tech was all dressed up, out there head art piece, and wild earrings. She has probably 150 Bobble Heads sitting on her window sill. I have never ever seen anything like it. It’s really “ campeee.” Thank goodness we are all different right? She is a very nice lady, full of fun.
I like Trader Joe’s chocolate peanut covered candy. I picked up a small package they were selling the other day. I like them better than Reese’s, because they taste less salty.
You and your family remain on my thoughts.
