Weekend Meanderings

Good Saturday morning friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Kim and Juliet. Join us as we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye this week.

It’s Memorial Day weekend, can you believe it? Where is the time going?

What are your plans this weekend? Yesterday we soaked up some sun by the pool. Today we are going to polocross which is a combination of polo and lacrosse. I’ve never been before so it will be an adventure.

Then we are going to a car show. Although cars are not “my thing” I love this show there are so many interesting and amazing cars. Last year there was a car from the 50’s with a record player in the front seat. It was so cool. What is even more fun is talking to the owners of these cars because they are so excited to share their knowledge and their journey finding, owning and bringing these cars back to life.

Sunday it’s supposed to rain so we may see the new Mission Impossible movie. Aside from that we are going to a bbq and for cocktails with friends. And last but not least on Monday a parade to honor the sacrifice of so many brave men and women.

Ok, let’s meander friends.

One to Follow~ English Enjoyed with Thomas Finch

Do you follow Thomas Finch, English Enjoyed on Instagram or YouTube, if not you should. Thomas is on a mission to teach people English, British English that is.

“At English Enjoyed, we believe English is not merely learnt—it is lived. Our approach is founded on the idea that language, like a fine library or a well-tailored suit, should be curated with care and lasting intention. Since its founding, English Enjoyed has been dedicated to teaching formal British English as an art form: beautiful, precise, and enduring. Every lesson, every word, is chosen with the same care one might reserve for an exquisite object in a collector’s cabinet.

Our work pays homage to the elegance of language: the subtle nuances of pronunciation, the wit woven into grammar, the timeless cadence of British prose. We teach English not as a utilitarian tool, but as a refined pleasure—an invitation to think, to speak, and to write with sophistication.”

Using wit, humor and little skits Thomas makes learning English fun and funny. Join more than 1.2 million followers on Instagram to learn the correct way to speak. You can also get more information and purchase Thomas’ book on his webpage.

Architect Gil Schafer Country Home for Sale

Gil Schafer is one of the world’s leading architects. His contemporary-classic homes are essentially historic old homes with all of the modern conveniences. Twenty-six years ago while looking for a home and unable to find what he liked so he decided to build it. Middlefield is that house, it is 3700 sq. ft in the middle of 45 acres in the Hudson Valley and it is for sale for 3 million dollars just in case you are looking for a new place.

UK-based Textile Designer Vanessa Arbuthnott

It is no secret that I LOVE English country home sand this week I fell in love with the Cotswold home of textile designer, Vanessa Arbuthnott. It is a former cow byre that she and her architect husband turned into a home. One of my favorite parts of the house, the front hall, it is beautiful, collected and inspirational. I love that Vanessa has art featured from every member of her family in the hall including her grandchildren.

Vanessa initially trained to be a nurse, then a teacher but 25 years ago she took a printing class to learn how to make curtains for this very home and turned her love of print making into a business.

You can see more of Vanessa’s fabrics, wallpapers, and furnishings on her website.

At Home in France~ Le Mas des Poiriers

Le Mas des Piores is a 65 acre pear farm in Provence that was extensively restored over 3 years by American Shauna Varvel. After spending 10 summers in Provence with her 5 children and husband they decided they should find a home of their own. They visited several houses and then fell in love with the bones and the property of La Bas de Poires.

Used as a family retreat, as well as, a venue for weddings, corporate events and vacation rentals.

To see more of the house visit the website and to learn more about the design process between Shauna, the architect and the American interior designer Susan read this.

Autocamp with Cindy Hattersley

Camping is not really my thing. As a kid I camped with the Girl Scouts and let’s just say the bugs, the cold and sleeping on the ground spoiled me for enjoying camping as an adult.

I loved the hikes and being out in nature but not sleeping in tents, cabins and campers yes but not tents. Last week Cindy shared her adventure at Autocamp and I might need to rethink camping.

According to Cindy Autocamp is made up of cleverly designed airstream suites, cabins and luxury tents with comfy beds, a real bathroom with a shower, microwaves, outdoor fire pits, and a mini fridge.

Now this sounds like my kind of camping. There are 9 locations around the country. For more information and a first hand account of the camp check out Cindy’s post.
