WEEKEND MEANDERINGS

Good morning friends, happy Saturday! It’s time for weekend meandering with Kim and Juliet, our weekly series where we share all of the things that piqued our interest and caught our eye over the past week.

It’s hot. I feel like a broken record but it is hot and I am hot. What is it like by you? Are you enjoying the heat or tired of it like me?

One of the greats, Tony Bennet passed yesterday at 96. I have always been a fan and enjoyed him even more over the last few years when he collaborated with Lady Gaga. He suffered from Alzheimers the last 7 years but never gave up performing and even played the piano a few days before he passed.

Today on weekend meandering it is all about Barbie, pink and Barbiecore, I’ve even found a few pink recipes that you might want to try. I realize we have been bombarded lately with all things Barbie but soon it will all be over and we will be back to reality.

Grab a coffee, tea or chocolate and let’s get to it.

Barbie & Barbiecore

As a girl I had a few Barbies and I enjoyed playing with them but what I loved most was the fancy dresses and shoes all things I clearly did not have in my wardrobe. My sisters and I played with them for hours and when we weren’t doing that we would pour over the Sears and JCPenny catalog to see looks at the Dream House and car.

Barbie and Barbiecore have been on the news and radar for over a year. Pops of pink have been popping up everywhere, in our home, wardrobe and even food. In fact while they were filming the movie there was apparently a world wide  shortage of pink paint.

The long touted movie opened yesterday, did you go see it? To be honest, while I loved Barbie as a girl I don’t see the appeal as a 56 year old. I do not have plans to see the movie any time soon. Oppenheimer is more my speed. But never say never, so if you see it and recommend it let me know.

Pink is a color that many either love or hate. I personally love it although I do not wear it a lot and when I do I prefer fuchsia pink. What about you? Do you love it or hate it?

  1. Elizabeth, love this post. Super fun. I’m a pink fan have been since age 7. I grew up with a pink bedroom with pink ballerina wallpaper and pink roses on my bed. Lol. I don’t wear pink that much every day but I do like a pop. I’m not as crazy for pink food, but a pink cocktail I would try.
I’m excited the whole families going to the Barbie movie Sunday afternoon boys included! I will report back!
Hoping that you’re staying cool I know how about this hot weather has been . Hope you have a beautiful weekend..

  2. This is the weekend so many have been waiting for … but I’m with you and sitting it out. I loved Barbie too … and played endlessly alone and with my friend next door … until the neighborhood boys would descend and disrupt our Barbie world and tease us. I had old Barbies … like Madge … and new like Malibu, the camper … and lots of clothes. Always misplacing the shoes. I may be skipping the movie … but I’m inspired by the food. The popcorn and avocado toast are so pretty … and spiked pink lemonade, please! So much fun today … it’s Barbie’s world and we’re just living in it! xo

    1. Juliet,
I love the old Barbies and the Camper! I forgot about the camper. I loved the shoes!
I agree the avocado toast is gorgeous! I am going to try to make it!
      Have a wonderful week!

  3. I just saw Oppenheimer. Wow! Award material for sure! It is an exhausting movie—loud, loud ,loud and emotionally wrenching. So well performed. Highly recommend!
News programs reported a trend of seeing Oppenheimer followed by Barbie and I could totally see that. One so intense, the other a laugh. Although Oppenheimer is a 3 hour movie and I am guessing Barbie is about 2 hours so you’d be at the theater all day. Maybe good for the heatwave days.

    1. Deb,
Thank you for the Oppenheimer review! I am looking forward to seeing it. I am not sure that I could do back to back Oppenheimer and Barbie, that is a long day at the theater.
      Have a wonderful week!
