Friday Favorites No. 650

Good morning friends! Happy Friday to you, did you have a nice week? We had an uneventful week, which is always a good thing. Thankfully no rain or wind from hurricane Erin, just gray and cloudy.

Today I am off for a little self-care, a facial, eyebrow wax, and a massage. I am looking forward to the massage as I have spent way too much time hunched over my computer and my neck and shoulders are in knots.

Aside from that there is not much on the calendar this weekend which is great because next week were are booked solid.  I have a stack of books, and my favorite magazines from the UK and a few hours set aside to read.

What about you? What are your weekend plans? Are you enjoying the waining days of August?

There is a lot to share so on to my favorites for the week.

Books

A Cornish Affair book cover.

The Cornish Affair

This is one of my favorite books I have read this year!

In the bestselling tradition of Rosamund Pilcher, a gloriously romantic novel of secrets and history, from the author of the highly popular THE CORNISH HOUSE.

Running out on your wedding day never goes down well. When the pressure of her forthcoming marriage becomes too much, Jude bolts from the church, leaving a good man at the altar, her mother in a fury, and the guests with enough gossip to last a year.

Guilty and ashamed, Jude flees to Pengarrock, a crumbling cliff-top mansion in Cornwall, where she takes a job cataloguing the Trevillion family’s extensive library. The house is a welcome escape for Jude, full of history and secrets, but when its new owner arrives, it’s clear that Pengarrock is not beloved by everyone.

As Jude falls under the spell of the house, she learns of a family riddle stemming from a terrible tragedy centuries before, hinting at a lost treasure. And when Pengarrock is put up for sale, it seems that time is running out for the house and for Jude.

At the Corner of King Street

After a tumultuous childhood she couldn’t control, Addie Morgan is finally living her own life. She’s left her old pressures behind for a job in a country vineyard, and she finds more than just work with the vineyard’s owner, Scott. But as things are looking up, her family comes crashing down.

When Addie’s sister gives birth to a baby she can’t raise, she leans on Addie for help. Unable to refuse in a time of crisis, Addie returns home to Alexandria to take care of everything she tried so hard to forget.

As she learns to tend to her niece and her aunt’s architectural salvage yard, Addie stumbles across something else that needs her attention: a history dating back to colonial Virginia…and a witch bottle allegedly holding a generations-old curse.

If Addie can follow the clues to uncover what’s plagued her family’s past, she might help save the future she’s only just started to build.

A Year of Marvelous Ways book cover.

A Year Of Marvelous Ways

Marvellous Ways is eighty-nine years old and has lived alone in a remote Cornish creek for nearly all her life. Lately she’s taken to spending her days sitting by the river with a telescope. She’s waiting for something – she’s not sure what, but she’ll know it when she sees it.

Drake is a young soldier left reeling by the Second World War. When his promise to fulfil a dying man’s last wish sees him wash up in Marvellous’ creek, broken in body and spirit, the old woman comes to his aid.

A Year of Marvellous Ways is a glorious, life-affirming story about the magic in everyday life and the pull of the sea, the healing powers of storytelling and sloe gin, love and death and how we carry on when grief comes snapping at our heels.

SHOPPING~OUTFIT OF THE DAY

Fall Outfit with red jacket, blue sweater and pants with blue shoes and gold earrings.

Red is not a color that I typically associate with Fall but I love this red jacket! It’s from Boden and it looks great with navy blue which is a fall color. This week I made an outfit of classic pieces that we all have in our closets to go with this jacket.

You could also wear this red jacket with a skirt, jeans or over a dress. And it is perfect for the upcoming holidays! All of the pieces are linked below.
