FAQs

Can I make apple crisp gluten-free?
Yes, just swap the oats for certified gluten free oats and substitute the flour in the streusel topping with a gluten-free baking blend or almond flour.

Is it possible to use frozen apples?
Frozen apples can work in a pinch, but they tend to be softer and release more juice, be sure so reduce the added liquid and keep an eye on baking time.

Can I prepare the crisp ahead of time?
Yes, you can assemble the apple crisp, cover it, and refrigerate it for up to 24 hours before baking. Just add a few extra minutes to the baking time.

Can I use different fruits or mix fruits?
Yes, mixing pears, cranberries or berries with apples adds an interesting flavor. Adjust the sugar levels depending on the sweetness of your fruit combination.
