WEEKEND MEANDERINGS
Good Saturday morning to you friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Juliet and Kim. Join us as we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye this week.
Juliet is back this week, I hope that you enjoy all three of our posts.
Have you voted, we voted last week Friday. Just a reminder, don’t forget to vote, every vote counts for local, state and national races.
Are you headed to a Halloween party this weekend? If so have a great time.
No party plans here because our renovations start on Monday! So we will be clearing out our bathroom, closets and master bedroom. Hopefully, I’ve not jinxed myself saying that, but that is the plan.
Just a recap, a tree fell on our house in April. Because we were going to have a big mess and construction we decided to remodel the master bathroom, an office, bedroom and powder room. Monday ee are having 2 windows bricked up, 2 walls moved, a door walled up, another door moved and 2 bathrooms remodeled. None if this includes the work already completed for the tree that fell on the house.
Ok, enough about me, but please keep your fingers crossed for my remodel.
Let’s meander.
Doris Kearns Goodwin~

Speaking of presidents, historian Doris Kearns Goodwin has written a new book that would make a fabulous Christmas gift for kids young and old or someone that enjoys history.
All four presidents profiled grew up and lived in very different worlds—Lincoln was poor and self-educated; Theodore Roosevelt hailed from an elegant home in the heart of New York City; Franklin Roosevelt loved the outdoors surrounding his family’s rural estate; and Lyndon Johnson’s modest childhood home had no electricity or running water. So how did each of them do it—rise to become President of the United States? What did these four kids have individually—and have in common—that catapulted them to lead America through some of its most turbulent times?
ONE TO FOLLOW~Gym Tan

Gym Tan is a 63 year old Tik Tok star and Instagram influencer whom I discovered last year. Gym worked for over 30 year in the fashion industry as a high powered executive. But when she moved from Singapore to San Francisco she couldn’t get a job. A one point she considered becoming a sales associate at J. Crew.
At the suggestion of her daughter Mya she started posting her daily looks on Tik Tok in 2021 and within weeks she had 10,00o followers. The rest as they say is history. Tan now has over 150,000 followers on Tik Tok and 294,000 on Instagram. In addition she has been featured in billboards in Time Square, and has been featured campaigns with Victoria Secret, Clairol and more
Gym is proof that it is never too late to start over and that you are only as old as you feel. Most of Gyms’ followers on TikTok are 20 somethings!
You can follow Gym on Instagram for fashion, styling, health and running tips. Don’t miss her fabulous California home tour.
CODA
CODA is a 2021 film written and directed by Sian Heder. Gifted with a voice that her parents can’t hear, seventeen-year-old Ruby (Emilia Jones), is the sole hearing member of a deaf family—a CODA, Child of Deaf Adults. Her life revolves around acting as interpreter for her parents (Marlee Matlin, Troy Kotsur) and working on the family’s struggling fishing boat every day before school with her father and older brother (Daniel Durant).
But when Ruby joins her high school’s choir club, she discovers a gift for singing and finds herself drawn to her duet partner Miles (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo). Encouraged by her enthusiastic, tough-love choirmaster (Eugenio Derbez) to apply to a prestigious music school, Ruby finds herself torn between the obligations she feels to her family and the pursuit of her own dreams.
Easy Halloween Treats

Need a few last minute treats for a Halloween party? Here are three no-bake treats everyone will enjoy.

Chocolate covered Halloween pretzels. If you want to make them a little sweeter and more decadent, dip them in caramel first and then in the chocolate.

Chocolate Covered Mummy Oreo cookies!

No baking involved and all you need are 3 ingredients, Oreos, white chocolate or melting wafers and some candy eyes. Simple and delicious.

While you have the white chocolate and eyes out why not decorate a few browned butter Rice Krispie treats too?
If you feel like baking a sweet treat, try a batch of brownies and decorate them like mummies or with spiderwebs. Or make my favorite pumpkin carrot cake cupcakes with buttercream icing.

Seeing the candy corn reminds me I’ve forgotten to get any the past few years. I always loved candy corn. Interesting story about Gym Tan. An inspiring story, as you say reminding us that you’re never too old to start over. I’ll have to check her out. As you know I’m packing to move, by myself. So I feel for you with the remodeling mess! Happy weekend!
Brenda
It’s always a delight to read your posts Elizabeth. I hope the home refurbishment is not too long and gruelling. Good luck. xxx
Wishing you the best on your remodel Elizabeth. It can be stressful, but hopefully so worth it. That book is a great idea for kids. I am currently reading Doris’s book about her life with her husband and their experiences as journalists and politics. Really good.
I love all your Halloween treats. SO cute! Gym lives not far from here in Marin County. She has a stunning home in the woods.
I am loving all your sweaters you choose. I can’t wait for cooler weather. Yay you guys for voting. We did a few weeks ago. If we all vote early, it is going to take some stress off this election- and we can be notified it was counted!
Have a great weekend! xo
Hi Elizabeth,’
Beautiful outfits thank you and all the Christmas inspiration! Lovely post. All the best with your remodel.
Take care,
Hi Elizabeth,
It is not easy living in your home during a major remodel. You know you lived through this already. I wish and hope that you have no speed bumps through the whole process. I look forward to you sharing the beautiful results.
Katherine, so far so good. I am looking forward to it being finished soon. Although according to the schedule the master will not have a vanity until November 18th and counters until 2-3 weeks after That.
Hi Elizabeth! Wishing you success – and speed – in this next phase of your remodel. I adore Gym Tan, she’s so inspiring and it’s fun to see her adventures just across the Bay. I appreciated your run down of the CODA storyline, I’ve never seen this movie so I’ve moved it to my watch list. Can you believe it’s Halloween week? The year is flying by and as you pointed out, Christmas stuff is already selling out. xo
