Good morning! I hope that you are having a great week. I am excited because tonight we are having our spanish friends over and they are giving us cooking lessons on how to make real Spanish paella, sangria and a few other things.

Speaking of Spain, my favorite summer shoe, espadrilles are from Spain. These classic shoes are typically made from cotton or canvas uppers and have twisted rope soles. They are comfortable, versatile and easy to wear from the beach to the mall, to dinner, in the garden and come in so many colors and styles. I love them so much I even wrote a post about them last year, Espadrilles The Shoes of Summer.

Classic Stripe

I got my first of many pairs in St.Jean du Luz, a beautiful town in the Pyrenees, on a summer visit with friends. They were red and I wore them until they fell apart, not only for their comfort but because they reminded my of my holidays in France.

In France in the Pyrenees they are sold everywhere and in every color and in the summer it is the shoe that you most often see on men, women and kids even more so than sandals, flip flops or sneakers.

Now days instead of just plain colors you will see embroidered ones with fruits, or sayings , there are leather uppers, and even ones with decorative hemp.

Red Pom Pom

And Soludos, my favorite brand, has expanded their selection in the last few years beyond the classic styles to include colorful mules,  velvet mules and embroidered mules, whimsical sandals and sneakers.

There are so many cute patterns and colors that it is hard to pick a favorite but I would have to say the Ibezia Embroidered Espadrilles because I love the colors!

Are you a fan of espadrilles? Do you have a favorite brand? Color? Style? If so please share it. And if you are looking for a pair check out my suggestions below.

  1. I live in espadrilles. I buy a size bigger and slip in cushioned soles, because real espadrilles have flat rope soles. And it's true that everybody wears them, often flattening the heel to wear them like mules. They are sold everywhere, including grocery stores, and they cost only a few euros, so it's possible to get a mix of colors, or throw in a striped pair.
