Good morning friends! Happy Friday and welcome to October. It is hard to believer that we are heading into the last quarter of 2021; the last 2 years seem like a blur. I am excited for the next few months, not only because of the holidays and all that entails but also because I will be celebrating my 55 birthday, spending lots of time with my family and hopefully seeing some progress on the house.

I have lots to share with you this week and surprise a lot of my favorite finds revolve around food. Pull up a chair, get yourself a warm or cool beverage and enjoy.

Food

Cooler days call for warm hearty comfort food and today I am sharing a few recipes that you might want to add to your weekly meal plan.

Life is What You Bake It

Popular baking personality and lawyer turned baker Vallery Lomas was ecstatic when she learned she won the third season of The Great American Baking Show. However, her win was never seen by the world—Vallery’s season was pulled after just a few episodes when one of the judges became a focal point in a Me Too accusation. Rather than throwing in her whisk and lamenting all of the missed opportunities she hoped to receive (Book deal! Product endorsements! TV show!), she held her head high and hustled—which resulted in her getting press coverage everywhere from CNN to People magazine.

I pre-ordered Baking With Dorie: Sweet, Salty & Simple for myself and for gifts. I own all of her cookbooks and I love them all. One of my favorite recipes which is perfect for Fall and Winter is her All in One Holiday Bundt Cake and a another is Hidden Berry Tart.

This week I read The Tenth Muse, if you have Kindle Unlimited you can read it for $1.99!

On her quest to conquer the Riemann Hypothesis, the greatest unsolved mathematical problem of her time, she turns to a theorem with a mysterious history that holds both the lock and key to her identity, and to secrets long buried during World War II in Germany. Forced to confront some of the most consequential events of the twentieth century and rethink everything she knows of herself, she strives to take her place in the world of higher mathematics and finds kinship in the stories of the women who came before her–their love of the language of numbers connecting them across generation.

The Book That Matters Most

Ava’s twenty-five-year marriage has fallen apart, and her two grown children are pursuing their own lives outside of the country. Ava joins a book group, not only for her love of reading but also out of sheer desperation for companionship. The group’s goal throughout the year is for each member to present the book that matters most to them. Ava rediscovers a mysterious book from her childhood—one that helped her through the traumas of the untimely deaths of her sister and mother. Alternating with Ava’s story is that of her troubled daughter Maggie, who, living in Paris, descends into a destructive relationship with an older man. Ava’s mission to find that book and its enigmatic author takes her on a quest that unravels the secrets of her past and offers her and Maggie the chance to remake their lives.
