Cindy Hattersley, The Vintage Contessa, Faulkner Books and Memorial Day on Weekend Meanderings
Good Saturday morning, I am joining my friends Juliet and Kim for Weekend Meanderings so when you finish here pop over and check out all of their weekend favorites.
It goes without saying that it has been a heartbreaking week for our country. My thoughts and prayers are with the families who lost a loved one, the city of Uvalde, the sate of Texas and the USA. We are all in mourning for the loss of 19 innocent children and 2 teachers.
I feel shallow writing a blog post and yet I find myself reading posts to ‘escape” from the news.
If you are reading this post maybe you feel the same?
Weekend Meanderings…
Memorial Day
Did you know that Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day? A day to decorate the final resting places of the men who died in the Civil War. You can read more about Memorial Day, the history of wearing poppies and more Here.
Are you serving burgers this Memorial Day? You might enjoy my 10 favorite burgers.
What is a bbq without dessert? Make a batch fo these caramel stuffed brownies for the weekend and your guests will love you even more.
Summer Style
Cindy Hattersley
One of the most stylish women I know is Cindy Hattersley, she makes fashion over 50, accessories, gray hair and more look effortless. This past week she shared inexpensive summer accessories that you will love, including bone, horn, wood and shell. hats, Add a little natural texture and color to your summer look with bracelets, necklaces and earrings. Don’t forget to add a straw hat not only to look stylish but to protect your skin.
Cindy’s blog is a showcase of her amazing talents in the garden, her collected home(s), entertaining and style over 50. You can find Cindy on her blog or on Instagram.
The Vintage Contessa
Another effortless dresser and style icon in my book is Elizabeth aka The Contessa. I discovered her blog yers and years ago and have been in awe ever sense of her joy de vivre, her caftans, garden, house and so much more. Elizabeth reminds me of my favorite character Mame of Auntie Mame fame and I have told her that frequently.
One of the other things I absolutely love about Elizabeth is that she is a “connector” she uses her house as a salon to bring together people from all walks of life that she believes would benefit from knowing one another and by benefit I mean form friendships, not a financial benefit.
This week, in her monthly Ageless Style Series which she writes with Cindy, her “victim” was herself. You can learn all about Elizabeth, her animals, creativity, fashion sense and the Italian here.
While you are there don’t forget to subscribe to her posts and Instagram. Do the same for Cindy, I promise you will not be disappointed when the beautiful faces of these ladies pop up in your Instagram feed because to follow will be a stylish outfit, a collected interior, a beautiful garden or an adventure.
Elizabeth was kind enough to write a guest post on Pinecones & Acorns about The Beauty of Regifting.
Auntie Mame
If you are not familiar with Auntie Mame you can read the wildly successful book, which was on The NY Times Best Seller List for 112 weeks, then made into a Broadway play and a movie, starring Rosalind Russell.
Or watch the movie.
For those who are familiar with Auntie Mame and wondering if she was a real person the answer is yes, you can read more about her here .

Did you know that all the recipes Julia made on the TV show The French Chef can be found in The French Chef Cookbook? It’s true!
“If there’s anything that I’ve learned, it’s that all the hard times I’ve been through — the potholes, the challenges, the missteps — have actually shaped me, defined me, and forced me to look at myself closely to see if I had the ability to rise. I believe that you’ll always find your greatest strength in your weakest moments if you allow yourself to dig deeper than you thought you could ever dig.” Erin French an amazing read!

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA STYLE

Good morning, Elizabeth. What a tragic week for our country and all of our school children who must be terrified. I’m glad we have a three day weekend to really absorb and contemplate how we find ourselves in this cycle of gun violence. Sigh. I love that you featured Cindy and Elizabeth and their Ageless Style feature which is my absolute favorite. It’s introduced me to so many interesting women. Do you know I’ve never seen Mame? What?! I know. I need to remedy that right now. After I’ve had cocoa, of course! And, maybe burger … those burgers sound so good as does the caramel stuffed brownie. The perfect lunch combination. Wishing you a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend (I didn’t know about Decoration Day either). And that’s way I love our Saturday morning collaborations with Kim. xo
