Good morning friends, it is Friday and that means it is time for Friday Favorites.  Are you ready for the weekend? I am ready to rest, relax and process the events of the week.

There are no words for the horrific events in Texas this week. Each time I see the faces of those sweet little kids I cry. I know that I am not alone when I say that my heart goes out t0 their loved ones and that they are in my prayers. A fund has been set up to help the families of the children, here is a link to the fund.

Now for a little distraction from the world.

In my humble opinion the best side dish at a bbq is the potato salad. This Bacon and Blue Cheese Potato Salad  is going to be at every one this summer held at my house

You might want to bookmark this salad to eat on repeat all summer long.

Brownie ice cream sandwich

I scream, you scream, we all scream for Brownie Ice Cream Sandwiches with Raspberries ! If you make these be sure to make hot fudge as well, then you simply plop the ice cream sandwich into a bowl top with lots of homemade hot fudge and you have a brownies hot fudge sundae.

If you want to make your own no churn ice cream this recipe is a favorite at my house.

The French Gardner

I love Santa Montefiore and this week decided to re-read on of my favorite books of hers’ The French Gardener.

It begins as Miranda and David Claybourne move into a country house with a once-beautiful garden. But reality turns out to be very different from their dream. Soon the latent unhappiness in the family begins to come to the surface, isolating each family member in a bubble of resentment and loneliness.

Then an enigmatic Frenchman arrives on their doorstep. With the wisdom of nature, he slowly begins to heal the past and the present. But who is he? When Miranda reads about his past in a diary she finds in the cottage by the garden, the whole family learns that a garden, like love itself, can restore the human spirit, not just season after season, but generation after generation.

Wise and winsome, poignant and powerfully moving, The French Gardener is a contemporary story told with an old-fashioned sensibility steeped in the importance of family and the magical power of love.

One Day I shall Astonish the World

Susan and Norma have been best friends for years, at first thrust together by force of circumstance (a job at The Pin Cushion, a haberdashery shop in 1990s Leicestershire) and then by force of character (neither being particularly inclined to make friends with anyone else). But now, thirty years later, faced with a husband seeking immortality and Norma out of reach on a wave of professional glory, Susan begins to wonder whether she has made the right choices about life, love, work, and, most importantly, friendship.

The Secret Life of Albert Entwistle

I cannot wait to read this book! I am on the list to receive the book on May 31st.

The Secret Life of Albert Entwistle

ALBERT ENTWISTLE WAS A POSTMAN. It was one of the few things everyone knew about him. And it was one of the few things he was comfortable with people knowing.

64-year-old Albert Entwistle has been a postie in a quiet town in Northern England for all his life, living alone since the death of his mam 18 years ago. He keeps himself to himself. He always has. But he’s just learned he’ll be forced to retire at his next birthday. With no friends and nothing to look forward to, the lonely future he faces terrifies him. He realises it’s finally time to be honest about who he is. He must learn to ask for what he wants. And he must find the courage to look for the man that, many years ago, he lost – but has never forgotten . . .
Join Albert as he sets out to find the long-lost love of his life, and has an unforgettable and completely life-affirming adventure on the way . . . This is a love story the likes of which you have never read before!

  1. I read almost all the articles in this one. The one about what foods/beverages are good/bad for us was interesting. The car dealership. Any news from Uvalde is heartwrenching. The most beautiful place in each state. So much going on. When are they going to do something about all these war weapons in America? It is stupifying. No one needs a war weapon unless they’re fighting a war. Hope you have a good weekend, though all of us are stunned about the school shooting. Just one of many.
