Bunny Williams at Home, Pumpkin Spice and everything nice and more on weekend meanderings.
Good morning friends, it’s Saturday morning and that can only mean one thing, it’s time for weekend meanderings with Kim and Juliet.
After several cloudy, rainy days it is sunny and cool today. I have nothing on my schedule because everything I was going to do was predicated on the painters finishing their work. I guess one more week of living in complete and utter chaos will not do me in.
As for the kitchen, we are a-l-m-o-s-t there. Paint, tiles and a few touch ups and everyone will be packing their bags and leaving us to get on with life.
On to weekend meandering…Bunny Williams, Pumpkin Spice Everything and More
Bunny Williams
Bunny Williams, is a legend in the design world, known not only for her homes but also for her gardens. Bunny Williams started her design career as a secretary and the equally famous NY design firm Parish-Hadley. After working there in various capacities for 20 years she went out on her own and the rest is history.
There are many things to love about Bunny Williams but one of my favorites is her collected decor. Bunny mixes pieces from all different periods and price points and even though many of the items in her house are valuable she uses them daily and she invites her guests to do the same. She is a prolific entertainer and her the comfort of her guests is her highest priority.
After watching the video above I love Bunny even more. This tour of her home, which she has lived in for 38 years, not only showcases her design, but her philosophy as well. Buy the best that you can and buy what you love. Believe it or not, for the first 5 years she lived in this house her living room sat completely empty, because she could not afford to decorate it. Once she was able to decorate the room it started with a mirror and then little by little pieces were added to make a cosy, comfortable and beautiful space.

Bunny Williams design ascetic is similar to mine. Our house is filled with things we have collected our entire lives, together and separately. We have always purchased quality pieces that we can have forever, each time we move we simply move them to the room that they work the best in. Over the years we have added accessories or smaller antique items but for the most part our original furniture, from our very first house, is still some of our favorite pieces and used daily.
My friends Cindy and Mary Ann have both written numerous posts about collected home design, be sure to check them out as well. You can also find inspiration on the hashtag #TheCollectedLook on Instagram.

Watch her new documentary on PBS.
Shop Bunny Williams store and her looks on Ballard Design.
Last but not least read her 7 books, the most popular of which sold 50,000 copies!
An Affair with a House is my favorite book because it tells the story of the house she fell in love with and how she created a home over 38 years. All of her books can be found on Amazon or for older copies check out Thrift Books.

Fall Books
Grab your pumpkin spice latte or pumpkin snacks and settle in with a plaid throw and a book. Here are a few lists of “the most anticipated books of Fall 2022.”
The Book of Goose is on the top of my list to read this autumn.
“A magnificent, beguiling tale winding from the postwar rural provinces to Paris, from an English boarding school, to the quiet Pennsylvania home where a woman can live without her past, The Book of Goose is a story of disturbing intimacy and obsession, of exploitation and strength of will, by the celebrated author Yiyun Li.
Fabienne is dead. Her childhood best friend, Agnès, receives the news in America, far from the French countryside where the two girls were raised―the place that Fabienne helped Agnès escape ten years ago. Now, Agnès is free to tell her story.
As children in a war-ravaged, backwater town, they’d built a private world, invisible to everyone but themselves―until Fabienne hatched the plan that would change everything, launching Agnès on an epic trajectory through fame, fortune, and terrible loss.

Recap from Last Week
Last week on weekend meanderings I shared Fall clogs and an Instagram rant among other things. You guys must really like your clogs because 20 of my readers purchased a pair from the links I shared. If you were one of those people, when you receive your clogs come back and tell us how you like them and what you are wearing them with. This pair for $34.00 (below)was the most popular and this pair for $89, was the second most popular.
As for my Instagram rant, thank you, I am so happy that I am not the only person that cannot stand the food reels and the noise. Since I wrote that post I have been reading up on the topic and it is a bizarre and profitable way to make money, you can read more about it here.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT…

Oh, Elizabeth … I share your love of Bunny and treasure her books. I didn’t know about the documentary … how fabulous. And I’m going to watch this house tour over and over. It’s nearly pumpkin season and while I love the smell of pumpkin spice, and pumpkin pie, I don’t partake of pumpkin spice drinks. Maybe because it’s not added to hot cocoa!!! I’m so glad Starbucks serves their pumpkin bread year round. I just had a slice this morning since we’re on the road. Wishing you the very best weekend … and, no, another week isn’t the end of the world. Buts its frustrating and I can’t wait for you to be through this process and enjoying your house (quietly and alone)!!! xo
Hello Juliet,
I hope the wedding weekend is amazing!
Bunny Williams is so talented and her books, homes and studio are as well. I could freeze each frame and spend 5 minutes looking at the details.
Pumpkin spice is my favorite season, pumpkin spice latte not so much. I am a hot chocolate girl and that is my drink. As for the Starbucks pumpkin bread it is delicious.
Thank you for the support, I know that you know what it is like, it is frustrating. But oh so worth it.
Take care and travel safe,
Elizabeth
Elizabeth, I adore Bunny and have some of her books. The Affair with a House is my favorite! My dad also had me watch her home tour on CBS this morning. So good! Collecting over time is the best..It makes me feel better knowing she also didn’t furnish her home until some years later!I will enjoy all these links too.
Pumpkin spice season.. I try and wait until it’s sweater weather to have one, which is usually October here! I love pumpkin bread and your recipe with the walnuts looks so good. I saved it to try when the boys are home! I appreciate the links to all the new books. I love fall for that too! You have found some gems ! Hope your weekend is beautiful! xo
Good morning Kim,
Sweater weather is about October here as well. I am looking forward to slowing down and nesting this year as I do every year. Fall and Winter are the time to recharge, regroup and relax, at least I think so.
Bunny is amazing! I love that your dad had you watch her as well, he sounds like a wonderful dad. You are so blessed that he lives just down the road.
Loved your post, you are always so stylish! The jacket suits you!
Take care and have a wonderful week Kim!xo
Have a good weekend.
Thank you William. I hope that you have a wonderful day.
Elizabeth! I didn’t even realize that Bunny Williams has lived in the same house for 38 years! That’s really something…proves that you don’t need to move in order to change and evolve. Very cool!
Bring on the pumpkin spice!
xx
