Weekend Meanderings

Good Saturday morning to you friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Kim and Juliet! This is our weekly series where we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye.

How was your week? It’s been beautiful and busy here. Thursday we made the final decisions on the bathroom(s) fixtures and the stone for the powder bathroom. We are using a Rohl un-lacquered brass faucet in the powder bath and Perrin  & Rowe faucets/shower/tub fixtures in the master bathroom. We had picked them out a few weeks ago but there was some sort of problem so we had to start over.

The fabricator wanted to do the install of the powder bathroom stone today but the room isn’t even ready, the trim and the wood were just delivered yesterday.

If you don’t know or are new here, when the tree fell on the house we decided to add two more projects to the schedule and just have the house messed up/refinished once and for all. That includes gutting the master bathroom and remodeling the powder bath, we are also closing up a door, and a skylight, removing floors, adding a built-in bookcase and a possibly a window seat and the list goes on.

We still have to finalize the tile, wallpaper, paint color and the lighting, as well as order the drapes and window treatments. I am sure that I am forgetting about 10 things but I’ll keep you posted.

Ok, enough about me let’s meander.

ONE TO FOLLOW~Samantha McCoach

If you watched and swooned over the latest Dior fashion show at Castle Drummond then you already know Samantha McCoach. Samantha is the founder of Le Kilt a fashion brand that creates traditional classic pieces inspired Samanthas Scottish heritage.

Samantha created Le Kilt with the help of her Italian immigrant grandmother. When she went off to college with a black watch mini-kilt her grandmother made her she was often stopped and asked about where to buy one. So she rang up her grandmother and the rest is history. Her shop now creates kilts, scarves, cashmere sweaters and vests using small scale manufactures from across the UK.

Approached by Dior creative director Maria Grazia Chuiri,  Samantha created the kilts worn in the show. You can read more about the show and how Samantha was chosen  here, it is a fascinating story.

Another One to Follow~ Man with a Hammer

Gregg Penn Man with A Hammer, man standing with a glass of wine in a round foyer with chinoiserie wallpaper.

Would you be brave enough to remodel an 8,200 sq. ft, 30 room, 5 store Georgian mansion? I certainly wouldn’t but that is exactly what Greg Penn has been doing for the last few years. After renovating an uninhabitale Victorian townhouse Greg decided to head to the Devon coast and take on The Admiral House.

He shares his room by room, stunning renovations, and diy projects on Instagram and has now written a book. I started following Greg soon after he moved into the house and it has been so interesting to watch the meticulous transformation of this house. Greg has lived with no heat, a derelict bathroom, cooked on a camp stove for 4 years and worked full-time while renovating this house.

If you like DIY done on a realistic budget then follow Greg on Instagram and preorder his book too!

Real estate Envy~Compton End, Winchester

Compton End, English thatched cottage.

When I think of an English cottage with a thatched roof, comfy, cozy. rooms and beautiful gardens filled with wildflowers Compton End in Winchester is what pops into my head.

Compton End

This exceptional Grade II*-listed house is located on the edge of the village of Compton, Hampshire. At the turn of the century, the original 17th-century thatched cottage and its grounds were extended and restored in the Arts and Crafts style by Winchester-based architect G. H. Kitchin; as a result, they enjoy a wonderfully symbiotic relationship. The latter, still laid out to Kitchin’s designs, features on England’s Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest. Within the grounds are a 17th-century Grade II-listed barn and peaceful pink summerhouse, while the internal plan, spanning some 2,500 sq ft, has a bright garden room and, as architectural historian David Ottewill put it, “all the Arts and Crafts hallmarks”.

Compton End

The gardens and the little pink house are my favorite things about this piece of property. If I win the lottery it might just be mine, that is unless one of you Anglophiles decide to buy it first. If that is the case, please invite me to see it in person.

Bridgerton is back and if you can’t get enough of it on TV you can bring some of it home to your house. I am partial to the teapot and the tea cups from the Williams Sonoma Collection.

Bridgerton X Target

Liberty London Bridgerton Collection

Liberty Fabrics, and Netflix’s and Shondaland’s critically acclaimed series, Bridgerton, have collaborated in preparation for dressing the ladies of the ton with an exclusive fabric collection. The collection consists of nine designs inspired by artworks discovered in the Liberty archive and Bridgerton’s enthralling narrative. Meticulously redrawn and recoloured by the Liberty design studio, the prints have been divided into three atmospheric chapters: Penelope’s Garden, Regency Bouquet, and Botanical Trellis. Showcasing a diverse array of charming blooms, from highly intricate floral renderings to decadent bouquets, the series evokes a sense of romantic charm as well as being a testament to both collaborative partners’ visionary creativity.

Love all the people you shared here. Going to go down the rabbit hole with Greg and the book club. Highclere Castle is on my list. A reader just told me she had a tour there with her and she’s lovely. That house for sale is a dream. .. Also could not stop thinking of you this week watching the Dior show in Scotland. It was a dream!
I love DVF and got to meet her here a few years ago when she had a pop-up shop in Los Altos. She helped me try a dress on and could not be nicer! Looking forward to this.

Hope your weekend is great. xo

  2. Hi Elizabeth,
I wrote you lots on this post but list it all.
waaay shucks. Enjoyed it all snd thanks for sharing.
A big fan of Diane Furstenberg and of course I always felt special in her wrap dress. If I had to do it over again I would never have donated it. Since I’m down to sneakers mostly I could not wear it today, I could have passed it down to my granddaughters.

    1. Katherine, thank you for your always kind comments. I love Diane, she is such an interesting lady. I’ve never had one of her wrap dresses but they are beautiful. Sneakers looks great with everything!
Have a wonderful week my friend.

  3. That little pink house! So much goodness here to discover. I have been away from social media and blogs as much as possible and enjoying the unplugged time so I apologize for my absence here. I’m working on my music and a book and even painting again. I hope the renovations on your home go smoothly. There are always delays and hiccups it seems. But it will be beautiful. Happy weekend, Elizabeth. ❤️

    1. Michele, I hope that you are finding peace, solace and a little bit of a break from social media. How wonderful that you are finding joy in your music and painting!
As for the little pink house, it is so cute in the inside, the perfect place to read and escape from the world.
Take care and enjoy the things that bring you joy.
      xo

  4. I’m probably one of the last people alive who has not seen Downton Abbey (sp?) I helped my neighbor get a tick off his dog the other day. Nasty things.

  5. Good morning, Elizabeth … so sorry for being a day late catching up with your weekend inspirations. I love hearing about your home remodel although I know it’s very stressful especially given the circumstances of the fallen tree. Sounds like you’ve made great decisions as well as amazing additions to your repair/renovation list. Can’t wait to hear more. I’m having a rough go readjusting to the time zone so I think I’ll haul my laptop back to bed and slowly pursue all your wonderful links. Wishing you a beautiful Sunday. xo

    1. Juliet, welcome home! I cannot wait for the update and all of the details of your trip to Italy. It looked amazing.
I hope that you are resting and enjoying your pups.
      Have a wonderful week.
      xo
