Monday Musings No. 195

Good morning friends, how was your weekend? Are you stuffed from all of the chocolate and candy? Thankfully we did not have any candy in the house, although truth be told I really don’t think the candy made today tastes anything like the candy I remember as a child. It doesn’t even taste like chocolate or is it just me?

It was a chilly but beautiful weekend here. Sunday I put up the last of my holiday decorations and I have a few tweaks left but the majority of my decor is up. I know many are not early birds but the lights and nostalgia of the decorations makes me happy and from the looks of instagram it does to many others as well. My King of Christmas King Noble Fir tree from last year is in the master bedroom, my new flocked tree is in the living room and in the family room I have a table top tree. In the dining room I decorated the table and will be hanging something in the windows, wreaths, snowflakes or pinecones, I am undecided as to what to hang.

We also went to see the Duke University Chorale perform at the Village Chapel and they were AMAZING! You can hear a few of their pieces here if you are interested.

Does anyone follow the Royals in the UK? What do you think about Prince Andrew loosing basically everything? I did not even know that you could loose your “Prince” title, did you? To be honest, he always seemed a little shady to me and very pompous and the whole Ebstein friendship was a red flag. I wonder what he will do now?

What about you? What did you do for fun this weekend?

Ok, on to +5 Things.

Read~Woman of Intelligence

Woman of Intelligence.

A Fifth Avenue address, parties at the Plaza, two healthy sons, and the ideal husband: what looks like a perfect life for Katharina Edgeworth is anything but. It’s 1954, and the post-war American dream has become a nightmare.

A born and bred New Yorker, Katharina is the daughter of immigrants, Ivy-League-educated, and speaks four languages. As a single girl in 1940s Manhattan, she is a translator at the newly formed United Nations, devoting her days to her work and the promise of world peace―and her nights to cocktails and the promise of a good time.

Now the wife of a beloved pediatric surgeon and heir to a shipping fortune, Katharina is trapped in a gilded cage, desperate to escape the constraints of domesticity. So when she is approached by the FBI and asked to join their ranks as an informant, Katharina seizes the opportunity. A man from her past has become a high-level Soviet spy, but no one has been able to infiltrate his circle. Enter Katharina, the perfect woman for the job.

Navigating the demands of the FBI and the secrets of the KGB, she becomes a courier, carrying stolen government documents from D.C. to Manhattan. But as those closest to her lose their covers, and their lives, Katharina’s secret soon threatens to ruin her.

  • Hi Elizabeth,
I did take a listen to “The Blue Devil Singers” Higher Love. Enjoyed it immensely, a great way to start my morning after my short walk early this morning.
Before I forget, your tree is beautiful, the pine cones under the tree is a nice “Elizabeth Touch.” I would love to see the rest of your Christmas decorations if you are comfortable sharing. We have a beautiful tall Manzanita tree in our great room with angel lights and pictures of our family members in ornament frames, most of our loved ones have passed away. We made the decision to keep our rememberance tree the way it is all year long. The lights come on around 6:00pm.
