Good morning friends! Can you believe tomorrow is the 4th of July! Summer is flying by and I am slowly ticking things off my bucket list, this weekend I will do a few more when we celebrate Independence Day with family and friends.

I typically do not decorate too much for the 4th of July, I hang my flag and have a vintage ironstone picture filled with mini flags on my counter. But after seeing this elegant and patriotic table from Cindy Hattersley on Pinterest I think I am going to have to up my game this year adding more flowers and natural elements for my 4th of July celebration.

Setting a festive and inviting 4th of July tablescape is easier than you think. I found a few more from fellow bloggers to use as inspiration.

Tips for Setting a 4th of July Table

1. Take stock of what you already have, you don’t need to run out and buy a bunch of stuff, unless you want to. Save some money and use what you have but add a few patriotic colors and touches.

2. Tableware, this includes plates, cups, napkins, and utensils. You can use red, white, and blue, stars, stripes or even your vintage transferware. Get out your white bowls that you typically use for cereal in the morning, place them on top of the red plates that you use for Christmas or Valentine’s Day.

Be sure to choose pieces suitable for indoor or outdoor use, like melamine plates or sturdy disposable sets, especially if you have lots of children coming to your celebration. You don’t want to break one of your favorite pieces or have someone spill their dinner from wimpy paper plates.

3. Tablecloths, runners or placemats add another layer of texture and fabric to your table. You can use solid or themed fabrics, bandanas, blankets, sheets or scarves as well.

4. Centerpieces can be as simple or as elaborate as you want to make them. Mason jars or vintage ironstone pitchers filled with seasonal flowers, miniature flags, pinwheels, or a combination are great options.

Or raid your front porch or garden and add red and white geraniums in terra cotta planters to the center of the table or some flowers from your cutting garden. Don’t forget to use some of your herbs, it’s one of my favorite fillers when making flower arrangements.

5. Decorative accents like star-shaped confetti, mini flag picks on the deserts or appetizers, and little bowls of colorful candy are inexpensive additions to your table and add a festive touch. Or make a party favor. Edible treats are always nice or something the guests can take home, a decorative sugar cookie, a bag of candy or a box of sparklers.

6. Don’t forget lighting. Add string lights to your deck or few trees, you could even use your Christmas lights, after all you will be digging them out of storage soon enough. Or add LED candles to the table and surrounding area to create a warm, inviting atmosphere, especially once the sun goes down.

If you opt for real flame candles you could place them in lantern so there is no chance of an accidental fire.

7. Patriotic bunting, big and small flags, paper lanterns, pinwheels, balloons are all great ways to add color, texture and fun to your party space. Hang lanterns in the trees, float colorful balls in your pool, place small flags and pinwheels in your garden containers. The possibilities are endless.

8. Add a beverage station. Be sure to have glasses, drink stirrers, cocktail shaker, ice and everything you need for serving water, cocktails, wine and beer.

Place the station away from the flow of “traffic” so that people are comfortable  lingering and making the cocktails that they like but are not in the way of the kitchen, grill or table.

9. Make sure that your serving trays, stands, and bowls match your “theme.” I personally use white serving pieces for everything because they are neutral, they let the food take center stage and they match with everything.

Don’t forget the kids! Make a separate table for the little kids and add a craft, crayons of even this patriotic puzzle that you can print on your computer.

    Cheers !!

  2. I sure wish I was there to go to the beach. I haven't even seen a beach in, oh, 15 years or so. Love the pretty tablescapes. I once had at least one of those patriotic flag plates. I think it was one of those deals where I got one and hung it on the wall. No telling what happened to it.

  3. I only seem to find the time to celebrate according to seasons….for Christmas, I look at my decorating attempts as winter décor, for Halloween and Thanksgiving, it's a décor theme of natural elements such as twigs, antlers, etc….the Fourth of July comes in the form of beach and garden themes and everything else from my summer experience. But these tablescapes truly are INSPIRATIONAL!!!!
