WEEKEND MEANDERINGS
Good morning and a happy Saturday to you! It’s time for weekend meandering with Kim and Juliet, our weekly series where we share all of the things that piqued our interest and caught our eye over the past week. Kim is in London so be sure to follow along on her adventures on Instagram.
Unfortunately, the unrest in Israel and Gaza is still going on, an it is spilling onto the streets worldwide. There was a glimmer of hope yesterday when 2 American hostages were released. I hope and pray that it is just the beginning and the continued negotiations see all 200 plus people released. Peace seems like a pipe dream but I pray for that too. How to help civilian victims of the Israel-Hamas war.
It is going to be a beautiful Fall weekend here, although it is a wee bit chilly. No complaints, I love the Fall chill, especially if I can warm up after with a cup of hot chocolate.
Tthis morning we are headed into the village for the Holly Arts Festival. That is all that is on the schedule aside from a few walks and reading my new magazines. By the way, if you download the Libby app. you can read hundreds of holiday magazines from all over the world, my favorites are from the UK.
What about you? What are your weekend plans?
Ok let’s meander.
Cote de Texas~ Joni Webb

Interior designer and long time blogger, Joni Webb of Cote de Texas, passed away on October 9th. Her beloved daughter Elizabeth announced her passing on Instagram two days ago. Although I never met Joni in person, she is from the “old days” of blogging. Back then people wrote blogs for the joy of blogging, sharing their love of a subject and meeting like minded people. Joni was knowledgeable, principled and so very kind. She was a friend to all, including me, answered every email, and offered advice and help whenever she could.
Joni was one of the first blogs I discovered and I am still a follower all these years later. Her love of design, family and her pups were a joy and an education to read. Reading one of Jonis’ post was like reading a documentary and a design book together. Her research was meticulous and I came away from her blog having learned something new each time.
The loves of her life were, her daughter Elizabeth, her husband Mr. Slippersocks and her pups. Joni will be missed by all who had the pleasure or knowing her in life or via her blog. Rest in Peace Joni.
Cote de Texas and its archives will remain active in case you want to revisit one of Jonis’ old posts.
Laura from Decor to Adore wrote a beautiful post about Joni and Andrea, another blogging friend that passed too soon.
One to Follow~ Stamps & Stamps

While perusing Victoria magazine online I came across this image. I love everything about it, it looks cozy, collected and filled with special memories and mementos. It is designed by a fellow anglophile and lover of collected style, Kate Stamps. Kate lives in Southern California with her husband Odom Stamps, an architect and partner of Stamps & Stamps,

After working many years for other companies, Odom and Kate started Stamps & Stamps in 1991. One of their first projects was their own 1904 cottage, a former carriage house which Odom reimagined into a family home. This cozy, collected book filled cottage is filled with worn rugs, patient furniture and surrounded by beautiful cottage gardens. If you didn’t know it you would think you were in a cozy English cottage instead of LA. Their love of history, classic architecture and extensive travel shoes not only in their own home but their clients as well.
Kate and Odams’ portfolio extends beyond three cozy cottage, their work includes a stunning glass house, a Moorish villa and so many more beautiful homes, hotels, gardens and commercial buildings.

Hanna Seabrook in Fredric Magazine

Speaking of beautiful houses, did you see Hanna Seabrooks’ Colombia, SC house in Fredric Magazine? Swedish antiques, 18th-19th century European art, antique tapestries, family antiques, 2 young children and dogs co-exist peacefully in this beautiful collected home.

The house was previously owned by the grandmother of a friend of Hannas husband Nelson. After writing to her for years as they moved about the country for Nelson’s job she finally decided to sell it to them 6 months after they moved back to their hometown of Colombia.
You can see more of the house here and why you are at it why not subscribe to the magazine as well. It is one of my favorite design magazines, here are a few others.
Inventing Isabella~Isabella Stewart Gardner
Last week I mentioned the amazing Fashion and Sargent exhibit, this week I thought I would share another exhibit in Boston, Inventing Isabella. The exhibit runs from OCTOBER 19, 2023 – JANUARY 15, 2024 at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.
About the exhibit:
Throughout history, there have been women who defied expectations, and dared to be different. Join us as we explore how art, fashion, and photography shaped their personas and identities.
Isabella Stewart Gardner used art, fashion, and photography to cultivate her image. Though her name is on the Museum she founded, Isabella remains an enigmatic figure. As someone who often defied the expectations of her gender and class, many stories, scandals, and myths surrounded her during her lifetime and still do today.
Inventing Isabella unites many pictures of Isabella—from formal oil paintings to informal drawings and personal and press photographs—that Isabella chose to preserve. Combined with select examples of her clothing and jewelry, we see how Isabella fashioned herself and entered long and intricate collaborations with artists to craft her public image. In conjunction with Inventing Isabella, the Museum will also showcase the work of two contemporary artists, Fabiola Jean-Louis: Rewriting History and Carla Fernández: Tradition is not Static.

More about Isabella
Isabella was a fascinating woman who loved to travel, was a life long learner, a little eccentric and with the help of her husband amassed one of the largest art collections in America. Not much is known about her views on current events of the times or her private life because she asked all friends and family to burn the letters she sent.
I just ordered this book, Isabella Stewart Gardner: A Life and am looking forward to reading more about this amazing art lover.
If you have plans to be in Boston don’t forget to visit the amazing Beacon Hill Books.

Such sad news about Joni. A shock. I loved reading her blog, they were always so informative. So well researched. Condolences to her family and friends.
Rita,
It was a shock to read about Joni, I am still reeling from the news. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Noooooo! I am so saddened by the news of Joni! I loved her blog, one of the first I discovered when I was made aware of designer blogs many years ago. Her style was impeccable and her deep dives into history were excellent! She will most assuredly be missed!!
Laura,
Joni was an amazing lady, as was her blog. Her knowledge and in-depth writing was a testament to her love of design.
She will be missed. I have her husband and daughter in my prayers.
Take care,
Dear Elizabeth,
Having only recently found your incredible blog, it has risen to the top of my favorites. Your inspirational quotes, diverse ideas, and topics always lift my spirits while prompting me to be more creative. Thank you.
In 1982, our family traveled from Seattle, Washington to the east coast for what we dubbed our “Hysterical Historical Trip”. At the top of my list was the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. Not wanting to risk hysteria from our preadolescent sons, my husband took them to the hotel pool followed by the movie ET, while I spent my afternoon at the ISGM. Of course, we all grieved when we read of the terrible theft in 1990.
My husband’s Christmas shopping will be easy this year. When I finish this reply, I will hand him the name of the ISG book published in 2022!
Condolences on what appears to be an untimely death of your friend Joni.
Warm Autumn thoughts, Diney on Mercer Island
Dinner,
Welcome to Pinecones and Acorns, I am so happy that you are here.
Thank you for your very kind comment about the blog, it is a labor of love and I try to write it as if I am sharing the things I enjoy with my fiends.
ISG is fascinating. I loved reading that she kept books of all of the newspaper articles written about her which she found outrageous. I also enjoyed learning that the painting on the cover of the book and used in the advertisement for the exhibit, by Sargent, was for many years kept in a room only for private viewing for her husband and herself. She had an interesting and incredible life but also one filled with terrible loss, including her son. I hope that you enjoy the book, it would make a wonderful Christmas present.
Joni was an amazing woman, her blog archives are still available to read if you stop by.
Take care and have a wonderful weekend.
That little book-filled bedroom by Stamps and Stamps has got to be one of my favourite home decor images in the internet. I’ve seen it shared so many times and I always wish I could have a room like that.
Lorna, I think it is such a beautiful and cozy room. I love it too! I could easily move in that room. I hope that you are having a wonderful weekend.
Happy weekend, Elizabeth, it was such a shock to hear the news about Joni. I had her latest blog post bookmarked to read over the weekend and I just can’t believe it. She was a lovely person and I especially loved her post awards show commentary. She will be greatly missed. It’s a rainy day here in Northern California so of course I doubly enjoyed getting cozy and taking a tour through all your weekend inspirations. Stamps and Stamps in a favorite. That under window bookshelf makes me swoon. Hope you had a wonderful time at the arts festival. xo
I was sad to hear the news about Joni. Thank you for sharing your weekend meanderings, Elizabeth. I’m always inspired by them and find myself seeking out many of the things you share. I’m very interested to learn more about Isabella Stewart Gardner! Hope you are having a lovely weekend.
