Jessica Buckley, Fashioned By Sargent at MFA Boston, Signature Style with Kim and Cindy and more on weekend meanderings.
Good morning and a happy Saturday to you! It’s time for weekend meandering with Kim and Juliet, our weekly series where we share all of the things that piqued our interest and caught our eye over the past week.
Current Events and Thoughts from This Week
Like most of you I am sad, disheartened and heartbroken for the innocent lives lost this week in Israel and Gaza. It is surreal that thousands of bombs are raining down on the Gaza stripe and in Israel and here we are, a world away, sipping pumpkin spiced lattes and shopping Amazon Prime days.
I find that things like this are hard to talk about, there are many sides and opinions. That is evidenced by the news coverage and the protest around the world. Not to mention that in this day and age there is so much vitriol and hate it is hard to have a conversation about many, most, no, make that all topics.
What I do know and believe is that NO ONE deserves to die at a concert, or while sleeping in their bed. A baby does not deserve to have its’ life cut short and a woman does not deserve to be assaulted then paraded thru the streets naked for people to take photos, then share them to social media.
Can you image the agony of not knowing where your child, dad, mom, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, grandparents are? 153 people are being held hostage and there is no news of them. We do not know if they are being fed, given medical attention or even where they are. I pray they are alive. I pray for peace but that is something that I do not think I will see in my lifetime.
Evil is evil no matter what they call themselves.
You don’t read my blog for opinions and politics but I can’t sit by and not mention it. I received a certificate in Holocaust literature in college and have continued to study it over the years. It seemed like an unimaginable nightmare then, and yet, was real. Just as it is real now.
Hold your loved ones close my friends. Here are ways to help if you would like.
On a lighter note, let’s meander.
One to Follow~Jessica Buckley
Recently, I discovered Scottish interior designer Jessica Buckley and fell in love with her work. It is classic and traditional with a modern twist, layers of color, pattern and pops of color to create a collected pace that looks like it has evolved over time.
“Jessica Buckley Interiors was established in 2011, offering a fully tailored design service to discerning clients across the world.
Jessica’s fresh aesthetic and instinctive sense of style is a result of a life long passion for beautifully decorated homes and her appreciation for living in a home that you truly love. Her love of beautiful fabrics, colour and pattern continues to influence her design approach, inspiring an ability to combine styles from different eras and cultures to create sophisticated and elegant homes.
Projects include numerous family homes in London, Cheltenham, the Cotswolds, Edinburgh & throughout Scotland as well as international projects in Ireland, Sydney, USA and the Middle East.”

Art and fashion lovers add this stunning exhibition of John Singer Sargent to your calendar. The show runs October 8, 2023–January 15, 2024 at the MFABoston. The good news is that even if you cannot be there in person there are live stream tickets available for all one them events.
“In portraits by John Singer Sargent (1856–1925), sitters assume elegant stances, the fabric of their dress richly depicted in broad, sensuous strokes of paint. Sargent brought his subjects to life, but he did much more than simply record what appeared before him. He often chose what his sitters wore and, even if they arrived in his studio dressed in the latest fashions, he frequently simplified and altered the details. Exploiting dress was an integral part of his artistry.
Organized with Tate Britain, “Fashioned by Sargent” explores the artist’s complex relationship with his often-affluent clients and their clothes. The exhibition reveals Sargent’s power over his sitters’ images by considering the liberties he took with sartorial choices to express distinctive personalities, social positions, professions, gender identities, and nationalities. Alongside about 50 paintings by Sargent, over a dozen period garments and accessories shed new light on the relationship between fashion and this beloved artist’s creative practice.”
Be sure to “visit” the MFA Boston to watch behind the scenes videos with the curator of the exhibition, the cleaning of some of the paintings and the installation of the exhibit. It is fascinating.
