MONDAY MUSINGS NO. 124

Good morning friends! It’s Memorial Day a day of remembrance for U.S. military personnel to honor those who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice and given their lives in service to the country.

Established in 1868, Memorial Day was initially founded in remembrance of Confederate and Union soldiers who died in the Civil War. Since then, the holiday, has come to represent all Americans lost in war.

Whatever your plans are today on this unofficial first day or summer please take a minute to think about and thank all of those who have sacrificed it all so that we can enjoy our life,  family and friends today and everyday.

Memorial Day quote The legacy of brave men and women who have fought and died for their country is the freedom we enjoy as Americans, overlay on tan America flag.

Weekend Update

It’s raining here today so I will be inside reading and relaxing, we have already had a fun and full weekend.

We attended a car show in the village yesterday morning and I have to say, even though I am not “into cars” there were some beautiful ones. It was also fun to hear the history and the restoration process of the cars. My favorite an Imperial which had its’ own record player where now days there would have been a CD player won best in show.

After the car show we headed home for the final prep of our barbecue. There were hamburgers, hot dogs, and sausages with all of the fixings, as well as, Mexican corn salad, broccoli salad, potato salad, homemade baked beans, chips, dips and assorted nibbles. Strawberry margaritas,  mojitos and limeade were just a few of the beverages and cocktails.

Patriotic Red White and Blue No-Bake Cheesecake

For dessert my brother made creme brûlée and I made my no-bake cheesecake and chocolate chip cookies. The cheesecake is perfect for the 4th of July as well so make sure to pin it!

We ate, talked and laughed until well after dark and then watched a movie and went to bed.

What about you?

How was your weekend?

Ok, on to +5 Things.

1. READ~Anxious People

Anxious People book cover, mustard yellow with 2 people in blue shirts standing with their back towards the viewer.

Anxious People

Looking at real estate isn’t usually a life-or-death situation, but an apartment open house becomes just that when a failed bank robber bursts in and takes a group of strangers hostage. The captives include a recently retired couple who relentlessly hunt down fixer-uppers to avoid the painful truth that they can’t fix their own marriage. There’s a wealthy bank director who has been too busy to care about anyone else and a young couple who are about to have their first child but can’t seem to agree on anything. Add to the mix an eighty-seven-year-old woman who has lived long enough not to be afraid of someone waving a gun in her face, a flustered but still-ready-to-make-a-deal real estate agent, and a mystery man who has locked himself in the apartment’s only bathroom, and you’ve got the worst group of hostages in the world.

Each of them carries a lifetime of grievances, hurts, secrets, and passions that are ready to boil over. None of them is entirely who they appear to be. And all of them – the bank robber included – desperately crave some sort of rescue. As the authorities and the media surround the premises, these reluctant allies will reveal surprising truths about themselves and set in motion a chain of events so unexpected that even they can hardly explain what happens next.
