MONDAY MUSINGS NO. 140

Good morning friends, happy Monday musings to you. How was your weekend?

Mine was great, except for the flood in the bathroom and guest bedroom. It was my fault, I was trying to multitask and when I am in a hurry that typically results in something going awry. I had been outside trimming some plants and got dirt on my cashmere sweater. When I came in I decided to soak it in the sink.

I went to get the Woolite, took a detour into the kitchen to get something and promptly forgot the sink was running. Then I made some protein balls, puttered around and roughly an hour later the bathroom and 1/2 the guest bedroom were filled with water. Thankfully the water wasn’t on full blast and that the rugs on the floor soaked up a lot of water.

Needless to say it took us 3 hours and a trip to the laundry mat to get everything cleaned up. My husband went to do the laundry and I stayed home to work on the bedroom and the bathroom.

The bedroom is still a mess because the rug is drying in the garage, and there are fans and a dehumidifier sucking the water out of the hardwood floor. Everything from the room, the bed, dresser, small tables, and chair is pushed to one side.

Thankfully we purchased a wet vac last month and were able to suck up a lot of the water that we could not get up by using all of the towels in the house and several blankets.

Lesson learned, stick to one task, do it well and then move on to the next. Hopefully this is not an “old age” thing because my husband did the same thing 6 months ago in our master bathroom and his office and we are both getting older.

Ok, on to +5 Things.

1.READ~Three Things About Elise

Three Things About Elise book cover with a silhouette of 2 women walking.

There are three things you should know about Elsie. The first thing is that she’s my best friend. The second is that she always knows what to say to make me feel better. And the third thing…might take a bit more explaining.

Eighty-four-year-old Florence has fallen in her flat at Cherry Tree Home for the Elderly. As she waits to be rescued, she thinks about her friend Elsie and wonders if a terrible secret from their past is about to come to light. If the charming new resident is who he claims to be, why does he look exactly like a man who died sixty years ago?

From the acclaimed, bestselling author of The Trouble with Goats and Sheep, Three Things About Elsie “breathes with suspense, providing along the way piercing, poetic descriptions, countless tiny mysteries, and breathtaking little reveals…a rich portrait of old age and friendship stretched over a fascinating frame” (Kirkus Reviews, starred review). This is an “amusing and heartbreaking” (Publishers Weekly) story about forever friends on the twisting path of life who come to understand how the fine threads of humanity connect us all.

2. WATCHED~The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare

I watched The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare with my husband Saturday, it’s based upon a true story and it quite interesting.

The story of the first-ever special forces organization formed during WWII by UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill for a daring mission against the Nazis. Their audacious approach changed the course of the war and laid the foundation for the British SAS and modern Black Ops warfare.

  1. Hi Elizabeth,
Oh oh my goodness I really feel for you, what happened to you with the water mess. I so get the havoc that multi tasking can cause. You are not asking for advise, and perhaps I should not offer it. This is what I do to help me not experience “oh my events” from happening. If I put a timer on my phone or on the kitchen oven it saves me from
“I can’t believe I did that,” believe me I relate to your story. I’m giving you a hug. I’m a recovering perfectionist so when I do things like this instead of forgiving myself I get so upset with myself. I try to always respond with saying “no one got hurt.” Yes, advanced age can play into it, but doing too many things at once and your mind on so many things, you go onto the next thing. Give yourself a big hug. YAY, no one got hurt.

    1. Thank you Katherine! I will have to try your timer idea. As I age I am trying to let things go but it is easier said than done. I like your term recovering perfectionist! That is me too!
HAve a great day and thank you again.

  2. Elizabeth, Since you are the princess, or maybe I better say the “queen of baking” can you recommend the BEST cookie monster with the M&M recipe, I hope to have my 3 youngsters over and I thought that would be a fun cookie to serve along with some pumpkin goodies. I thought if anyone would know it would be YOU!
    Thanking you in advance.

  3. Hi Elizabeth,
Thank you for sending me the Monster Cookie Recipe. I think it looks better than the ones I was looking at. I like having a cookie at night for a treat.
