Friday Favorites No. 642

Good morning friends! Whew, it’s been hot and it doesn’t seem like there is an end in sight. We had a little reprieve when it rained Thursday evening but then the heat and humidity were back with a vengeance rest of the week.

I am curious, does the heat make you tired? How do you motivate yourself when it is hot? When it’s this hot I am a hermit, I don’t even like to go outside except to take the pups out.

Can you believe it is almost the end of June? Summer seems to be wizzing by so fast this year.

I have lot’s to share so let’s get to Friday Favorites!

FOOD

It’s hot, almost too hot to cook. Here are some easy and delicious ideas for snacks, lunch, dinner and entertaining.

Summer tomato sauce over pasta in a white bowl.

This is one of my favorite sauces, I call it “summer tomato sauce.” It’s easy to make, customizable and not really even a recipe.

BOOKS~ ON MY LIST AND MY BEDSIDE TABLE

The Forgotten Book Club book cover, yellow with a pile of books in the middle and flowers along the edges.

The Forgotten Book Club

For three decades, Grace supported her husband Frank’s passion for books, despite not being a reader herself. Since his passing, their shelves echo longingly, and Grace’s heartache has only grown.

When Grace’s grandson suggests joining Frank’s old book club to feel closer to him again, Grace reluctantly agrees. Yet, upon arrival, she discovers this isn’t a typical book club: here, members settle in for an hour of reading… in silence.

Disappointed by the sparse attendance and confused by the lack of chatter, Grace flees. But when fellow member, Annie, convinces her to stay, Grace is determined to ensure that neither Frank – nor his beloved book club – are forgotten.

And as she breathes new life into the group, Grace might just find this is where she truly belongs. Because this next chapter of life could just be the beginning of her story…

Anne of Green Gables, My Daughter, and Me: What My Favorite Book Taught Me about Grace, Belonging, and the Orphan in Us.

Anne of Green Gables, My Daughter, and Me: What My Favorite Book Taught Me about Grace, Belonging, and the Orphan in Us

A charming and heartwarming true story for anyone who has ever longed for a place to belong. “Anne of Green Gables,” My Daughter, and Me is a witty romp through the classic novel; a visit to the magical shores of Prince Edward Island; and a poignant personal tale of love, faith, and loss.

And it all started with a simple question: “What’s an orphan?” The words from her adopted daughter, Phoebe, during a bedtime reading of Anne of Green Gablesstopped Lorilee Craker in her tracks. How could Lorilee, who grew up not knowing her own birth parents, answer Phoebe’s question when she had wrestled all her life with feeling orphaned―and learned too well that not every story has a happy ending?

So Lorilee set off on a quest to find answers in the pages of the very book that started it all, determined to discover―and teach her daughter―what home, family, and belonging really mean. If you loved the poignancy of Orphan Train and the humor of Mennonite in a Little Black Dress, you will be captivated by “Anne of Green Gables,” My Daughter, and Me. It’s a beautiful memoir that deftly braids three lost girls’ stories together, speaks straight to the heart of the orphan in us all, and shows us the way home at last.

The Awakening of Miss Prim.

The Awakening of Miss Prim

In this #1 international bestseller, a young woman leaves everything behind to work as a librarian in a remote French village, where she finds her outlook on life and love challenged in every way.

Prudencia Prim is a young woman of intelligence and achievement, with a deep knowledge of literature and several letters after her name. But when she accepts the post of private librarian in the village of San Ireneo de Arnois, she is unprepared for what she encounters there. Her employer, a book-loving intellectual, is dashing yet contrarian, always ready with a critique of her cherished Jane Austen and Louisa May Alcott. The neighbors, too, are capable of charm and eccentricity in equal measure, determined as they are to preserve their singular little community from the modern world outside.

Prudencia hoped for friendship in San Ireneo but she didn’t suspect that she might find love—nor that the course of her new life would run quite so rocky or would offer challenge and heartache as well as joy, discovery, and fireside debate. Set against a backdrop of steaming cups of tea, freshly baked cakes, and lovely company, The Awakening of Miss Prim is a distinctive and delightfully entertaining tale of literature, philosophy, and the search for happiness.

SHOPPING~OUTFIT OF THE DAY

Black and White Linen Dress Outfit with a black hat yellow and white daisy bracelet and black sandals and a bottle of perfume.

Are you a linen lover? Me too! It’s funny because there are some people that don’t like linen because it wrinkles, that doesn’t bother me because on hot summer days most things wrinkle. This linen dress is classic and comfortable. You can wear it around the house or out for the day. Pair it with your favorite sandals, or ballet flats whichever you find most comfortable. If you will be outside don’t forget a hat and sunscreen!
