Weekend Meanderings

Good Saturday morning friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Kim. Join us as we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye this week.

It’s cherry blossom season! Have you been to Washington D.C to see them in person? If not put that on your bucket list, it is amazing! The original trees were a gift in 1910 from Yukio Ozaki the mayor of Tokyo. Since then over 3000 cherry blossom trees have been planted around the Tidal Basin and the mall. To commemorate the 250th birthday of America the Japanese Embassy will be gifting an additional 250 trees to the capital.

I’m excited because we found an alternative carpet for the bedroom that will be in NC well before May 15th which is when our other choice was slated to arrive. Fingers crossed that is still the case when we order it today. Then we have to wait to 2 weeks for installation. In the meantime the closets are being reconfigured and having new shelves installed.

Today we are off to the carriages races, it’s going to be hot but cloudy. Better than rain but it would be nice to have a little sun.

Aside from that a very lazy weekend ahead. I have one last thing to do for my taxes before my appointment on Monday. I am the worst procrastinator when it comes to taxes. Every year I say I will keep up monthly and in my defense I do, for the first 3 months and then I get lazy. Any tips for staying on track are greatly appreciated.

Enough about me, I have lot’s to share this weekend so let’s meander.

Wanderlust~Chateau de Sully

Chateau de Sully, castle and gardens.

While reading Home & Garden I came across this article about a fairytale chateau in Burgundy France. After a little digging I discovered not only an enchanting home, but a love story and a vineyard.

Chateau de Sully is a private home that is lived in and run by Madame la Duchesse de Magenta, Marquise de Mac Mahon, her children and her sister. Madame la Duchesse de Magenta, who is from Scotland was attending a party in Germany as a young lady and looked up and locked eyes with her future husband. Mere weeks after meeting her real life price charming she dropped out of school and moved to France.

Her husband passed away in early the 2000’s and Madame la Duchesse de Magenta has continued to run this massive estate, vineyard and garden for not only her children but for future generations.

An interesting factoid, this chateau does not have central heating!

Guided tours are available from March thru November.

You can read more about the Duchess de Magenta, the Chateau de Scully and the vineyard on the website.

Blanche Hoschedé-Monet~The Forgotten Monet is Finally Being Recognized

If you love Impressionist art and Claude Monet you will definitely be interested in the latest exhibit at the Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Museum of Art, Blanche Hoschedé-Monet in the Light.

Blanche Hoschedé-Monet was the step-daughter and daughter-in law of Claude Monet. Overshadowed by her famous father-in-law Blanche has never had a solo exhibition in the USA until now, Blanche Hoschedé-Monet in the Light will be at the Eskenazi Museum of Art at Indiana University. The exhibition opened February 14th and closes June 15th.

Blanche Hoschedé-Monet in the Light brings together 40 paintings that showcase her immense talent.

“Hoschedé-Monet grew up surrounded by the modern masterpieces in the collection of her father, Ernest Hoschedé, who was a patron of such renowned artists as Édouard Manet, Monet, and Auguste Renoir. Her family’s move to Giverny in 1883 prompted her to take up painting in earnest. With Monet as her mentor, she developed a distinct style that favored carefully framed points of view and landscapes painted en plein air.”

Her story is fascinating and you can read more about her in the articles below, especially if you are curious about how Monet was her step-father and father-in law.

Holiday Rental~Cotswold Cottage

The Cotswolds is one of my favorite places in the world, it is cosy, romantic, quaint and everything you think England would look like. There are wonderful places to shop, dine and of course amble across the countryside.

Several years ago my husband and I planned  a three week walking trip in the Cotswolds, the Lake District, the Borders, in and around Fife, St. Andrews and then Edinburgh. My mother-step-father, brother and sister-in-law joined us(they lived in England) and it was one of the best trips we have ever taken.

On our trip we stayed in a 500 year old cottage in Chipping Camden, a tiny Inn in Hawkshead, a fabulous Country House in the Borders and a Scottish Country House in Fife.

This charming cottage sleep 10 and is the perfect place to rest, relax and enjoy not only the house, time with friends and family and to explore the Cotswolds. For more information about Wood Farm visit Sand & Stone Escapes.
