Good morning friends, a happy Spring to you as well. Overnight it seems as if the vibrant colors of spring have emerged from the ground, pink cherry blossoms, yellow daffodils and a myriad of green buds on the trees and bushes.

Now that Spring is here that means Easter is just around the corner, in fact it is just 13 days away and that has me thinking about mass(virtual), dinner(not sure yet) and Easter baskets. As a child the Easter bunny always left us the most beautiful baskets. Before bed we would put out our empty wicker basket and on Easter morning our empty baskets were filled with all of our favorite candy, a diorama sugar egg, a stuffed bunny and wrapped in colorful cellophane  topped with a fuzzy chick. He still leaves me a basket when I am home visiting and it is just as beautiful and fun to eat.

Just because I am not going home this year doesn’t mean I want to miss out on my favorite candy, my solution is an “Epic” and easy sweet charcuterie board filled with all of my and my husbands favorite candy.

Charcuterie boards have taken over social media lately and the bigger the better. Traditionally charcuterie boards are savory but there is nothing wrong with making a dessert board instead. In fact I think instead of a basket an Easter Dessert Board is the perfect treat for the day. That way you can graze on your favorite sweet treats all day long.

This Easter Dessert Board could also be used as your centerpiece for brunch or lunch.

  1. Pick your tray or board and an assortment of small dishes, this will add dimension and height as well as corral some small treats. You could use a vintage silver tray, a cutting board, or a large platter.
  2. Gather all of your candy, cookies, cakes and lay them out by your board.
  3. Place the larger items, like the snack cakes, cookies or chocolate rabbits on the board first, then alternate with the smaller candy. Add the piles of candy, cookies, marshmallows or whatever else you are using to different sides of the board or add the small bowls filled with the smaller candy.
  4. Once you have all of your main, and favorite candy, cookies and cakes placed on the board take some of the leftover small candy and fill in the spaces in between.

The great thing about this “charcuterie” board is that it is easily customizable, if you don’t like cookies or cakes leave them off, if you want to add some of your homemade carrot cupcakes, or mini quick bread put them on. You can make this board or tray as large or as small as you like, if there are only two of you make a small snack plater, if you are making this for your family or a small gathering use a “turkey size” platter or board.

You could even let your kids make this for the family celebration. You may want to monitor them so they do not eat too much candy and get sick. For those of you who often email me or leave comments about me eating all of these sweet treats let me put your mind as ease, all of this candy has been packed up in little Easter baskets and shipped to various friends and family. They only thing I kept were the Reese’s peanut butter eggs.

I found all of my candy at Target,  and my local grocery store.  I ordered from Target and Walmart online and they delivered the items to my car. You could also order from Amazon or pick up a few things from Trader Joe’s like the French macaron(which are scrumptious and I believer from France).

If you decide to make one just have fun with it, it doesn’t have to be perfect that is the idea, it is  a free form work of edible art.

I hope that you have a wonderful day friends!
