Monday Musings No. 63, a weekend update + 5 Things: what I read, watched, and discovered this weekend and more.
MUSINGS
Good Monday morning friends, how was your weekend? Are you dragging a little because of the time change? Me too. I felt like I was moving in slow motion all day yesterday and this morning I am not much better. It is funny how one hour can throw off your rhythm.
Saturday
We had a fun weekend with friends and family. As well as a little adventure. Friday cocktails with friends. Saturday we took a little road trip to the Fayetteville to visit LeClaire’s General store. I’ve wanted to visit forever but just never found the time until a friend visited last week and made a real for Instagram. I spied an Elizabeth Blackwell botanical engraving and I couldn’t get in the car fast enough.
LeClaire’s General store is one of the most beautiful stores I have ever been in, it is like a curiosity cabinet in a store. The vintage art, furniture and accessories mixed with new and old books, coffee, wine, tea and chocolates is so creative. Each vignette drays you in. I could have stayed there all day! There is a lot that I missed because once I was in the print room and talking with Patrick the owner about Elizabeth Blackwell and the collection I lost all sense of time. Let me say this, if you are in or around Fayetteville you must visit this shop and if you are not the good news is that you can shop online!
After leaving LeClaire’s we ran into two international markets to stock up on spices, vegetables and a few things we don’t know anything about but looked interesting. Then it was a long drive home, a quick trip to the house to feed the pups and then back in the car to get Audrey my niece.
We went out for pizza, took a stroll around Aberdeen and then back to the house for a few games of dominos and left right center. Audrey was the big winner, she won all the games and all of the money.
Sunday
I wish I could say we sprung out of bed with the time change but the three of us were bleary eyed and tired. That didn’t stop us from enjoying a hearty breakfast though. We made waffles, sausage and scrambled eggs. Then I packed up Audrey, took her home and came back to find my husband curled up with 3 pups reading. The “to-do” list fell by the wayside and we spent the rest of the day reading, making our Sunday afternoon phone calls and then going to bed early.
Tell me about your weekend? Did you do anything fun? We you stuck inside because of the weather? I did not see any, but apparently there were snow flurries in NC. How are your garden plans coming along? I would love to hear all about it so let’s know in the comments.
Ok, onto +5 things!
+5 THINGS

On Gin Lane
Everleigh “Lee” Farrows thinks she finally has life all figured out: a handsome fiancé named Roland, a trust in her name, and a house in Bronxville waiting for her to fill it with three adorable children. That is, until Roland brings her out to the Hamptons for a summer that will change everything.
Most women could only dream of the engagement present Roland unexpectedly bestows on Lee—a beachside hotel on the prized Gin Lane—but Lee’s delight is clouded by unpleasant memories of another hotel, the Plaza, where she grew up in the shadow of her mother’s mental illness. Shaking off flashbacks, Lee resolves to dive into an unforgettable summer with poolside Bellinis, daily tennis matches, luncheons with her Manhattan circle, and her beloved camera in tow. But when tragedy strikes on the hotel’s opening weekend, the cracks in Lee’s picture-perfect future slowly begin to reveal themselves, and Lee must look deep within herself to determine if the life she’s always wanted will ever truly be enough.
From the regal inns to the farmland, the well-heeled New Yorkers to the Bohemian artists, the East End of Long Island is a hodge-podge of the changing American landscape in the late 1950s—and the perfect place for Lee to discover who she really is.

Hi Elizabeth! Sounds like such a full, life-giving weekend full of reasons to be good-tired. The shop sounds fabulous. We labored on our bath reno over the weekend, and we’re inching to the finish line. This is the most challenging house – even when we think we have something figured out, the architecture will beg to differ and require more of something, less of something, or a whole new plan. I am basically clean up crew which is how I spent Monday and this afternoon is more painting. There is zero glamour behind the blog of a real life renovator – those influencers doing it all, making time for friends and parties, and looking gorgeous while doing it? They must have beaucoup bucks to pay crews and staff! 🙂
