Suzanne Rheinstein, Jamie Beck, The Cook’s Atelier, Easter treats and more on today’s weekend meanderings.
Good Saturday morning friends! Today I am joining Kim and Juliet for weekend meanderings, our weekly series of things that caught our eye and piqued our interest.
How was your week? After a few gray and rainy days yesterday it was sunny and 84. Naturally we decided to work outside for a few hours in the sun. Needless to say, after a long winter inside, I am now sunburned and sore. Yes, I was wearing sunscreen and a hat so maybe I need to relayer the sunscreen after a few hours?
I am so excited because my peonies are coming up, some faster than others but it is thrilling to see the little buds popping out of the ground. Some were planted last year from bare root and I did not think they would survive the winter. Peonies are such a happy and colorful flower and I am trying to find more places to plant them. I just hope the deer don’t eat them! Yesterday the ate my dwarf cherry blossom shrub to the ground.
Gardening is not my forte so I look to Youtube for tips on everything from planting to fertilizing, and all the rest. My go to is Garden Answer if you need a little help too!
Weekend Meanderings
Suzanne Rheinstein
Sadly this week one of my favorite interior designers, Suzanne Rheinstein passed away. Not only was Suzanne a designer but also the owner of Hollyhock, an antique and decor store in Los Angeles and an author. Her traditional and English inspired rooms were classic, filled with one of a kind pieces, beautiful fabrics and wonderful art. I could spend hours looking at her work and enjoying each and every carefully selected piece.
It’s clear that Suzanne Rheinstein believed in designing rooms that would last a lifetime and with pieces that could be passed to the next generation. You can see her work in AD, her books, and the books of many others as well. Kim shared her love for Suzanne and photos of her Monticeto retreat a few years ago.
She wrote three books, the latest was released just 10 days ago.

Jamie Beck
Fans of flowers, Jamie Beck and An American in Provence you are going to love this news! Jamie has a new book coming out in October and it is all about flowers! The Flowers of Provence is available for pre-order and I think it would make an amazing Christmas gift!
Jamie for those of you who don’t know was a successful commercial photographer in NY, she decided to take a year “off” and move to Provence. The experience was life changing and she and Keven her husband have never returned to the states except to visit family and for the occasional book promotion.
An American in Provence is filled with beautiful photographs and is part art book, part memoir, and part cookbook. You will see life in Provence in a totally different way that you did with Peter Mayle in his wildly popular books A Year in Provence, Toujours Provence and the many other books her wrote.
On a side note- if you pre-order and the price goes down between the time you order and your book arrives you will be reimbursed for the difference.
Cook’s Atelier
Which reminds me of Cook’s Atelier, an enchanting French cooking school, and shop in Beaune run by mother and daughter American expats Marjorie Taylor and Kendall Smith Franchini.
From a small second story apartment in 2009 to a beautiful space in a former dress shop, the Cook’s Atelier has evolved from not only a cooking school but also to a culinary boutique and wine shop offering the tools of the trade, wines and other provisions. They showcase the best of everything French from their favorite gardeners, winemakers, fishmongers, and butchers in their shop, book and classes.
I personally have not taken a class but I have several friends that have and they enjoyed every minute, from shopping for the ingredients, to cooking, learning new techniques and then gathering together to enjoy the meals. You can take a 5 day intensive class or a one day. If you find yourself in Beaune and don’t want to take the class stop in and see the shop!
You can also learn at home with the Cooks Atelier Cookbook, I have this book and love the recipes and stories of the local farmers and producers where they purchase their products. You will learn classic recipes but also about the French culture and appreciate for life. I shared my love for this book way back in 2018 and still use this cookbook often.

Easter is just over two weeks away and it is time to plan the tables cape, and the menu. Today I am sharing a few of my favorite Easter treats and recipes. They are all easy to make and will be loved by your guests.
Skip the place card holders and make these easy Easter cones filled with candy! Or try my surprise inside Easter Carrots.
Carrot Cake is a family favorite, instead for making a layer cake I like to make a loaf cake and add a few whimsical carrot decorations.
An Easter candy and cookie board is a great addition to your Easter celebration. Kids of all ages will love this.
An easy and delicious easter dessert, dipped sugar cookies.

Rainy trip to NJ right now. Happy Saturday

Happy weekend, Elizabeth! Wow, I learned a lot from you today. I was so sad to hear about Suzanne and had ordered her new book, of course, knew of Hollyhock but didn’t really know much else about her. I’m going to read all the articles you linked. Same with Jamie Beck … and Cooks Atelier. I know, do I live under a rock?! I can’t believe your temps reached into the 80’s this week … yes, you must reapply the sunscreen. As I’ve learned the hard way. Gardening is a process of trial and error. Mostly error in my experience! And yet we still get out there … and you will prevail! Love all your Easter treats. Hard to believe it’s that time again. Hope you have buoy the rest of your weekend. xo

Elizabeth, I would so love to go to this cooking school! Love following them. It is really sad about Suzanne and thanks for sharing that post. I adored that home she built for herself along with so many other rooms. I will do a deep dive on all the links this afternoon.
Great Easter fun ! Love the cookies especially and the platter with all the goodies. I am unsure of what we are doing.. This holiday comes up so fast. I do love it though.

Elizabeth, I would love to take a class at Cook’s Atelier. It would be an amazing experience. I took a cooking class in Italy and loved it so much. I enjoyed this post and all if the wonderful Easter inspiration.

What a shame about Suzanne Rheinstein, she was an incredibly talented woman.
Your Easter treats look wonderful, Elizabeth. I will have to look into the Flowers of Provence, what a beautiful book! I do have peonies in my garden but I have a wonderful person who helps me in my garden, so I don’t have any tips. I planted the peonies myself and they did grow, but they are doing much better now they have help. Wishing you a lovely week.

Wonderful post. Wanted to share that I was in a restaurant and the people at a neighboring table shared a dessert photo. I shared your candy and cookie board. The woman immediately wanted your blog name and began scrolling through, oohing and aahing at your great content so you may have a new follower from an unlikely event.
I also enjoyed your reel of table setting but was so happy you included still photos as well. I know reels are the trend but I love having images to study. Thank you. I may have friends over just to set a cute table and assemble a candy/cookie tray!
Have a wonderful week.

Didi, you made my day! Thank you for sharing my blog! That was so kind! I think a candy/cookie/treat board is such a fun dessert! I love sweet treats and it is always more fun when you can try more than one thing! If you make a board come back and share! I would love to know what you put on your board.
Have a wonderful week and thank you for reading the log and sharing!
