Weekend Meanderings

Good Saturday morning to you friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Juliet and Kim. Join us as we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye this week.

How was your week? I have been sick, 2 days I never got out of bed, and the days that I did I had to take a nap. It is like 2 steps forward one step back, one hour I feel better the next I am whipped out. My dad told me he had something similar and it took 12 days to recover. Has anyone else been sick this month? What is it? The flu? Covid? What are you doing to help yourself recover faster?

Aside from that nothing new here except Game Day. As I have said I am not interested in the game but Bill is a life long Chiefs fan and this is an excitng time for the team. Give me the snacks and the commercials. I read that there will be 90 commercials during the game! Is that a record? How long is this thing?

Ok, on to Weekend Meanderings.

Metropolitan Opera Live

Are you an opera lover? Or want to learn more about it? Have you dreamed of seeing your favorite opera at The Metropolitan Opera in New York? Did you know that you can watch it live at your local theater? Get yourself a bucket of popcorn or a glass of wine and settle in for Beethovens’  Fidelio, or The Marriage of Figaro to name just a few. Explore the Metropolitan Opera and look for a theater new you.

Wanderlust~Historic Houses, Castles and more.

If you are traveling to the UK You’re Invited to View  is a great resource to bookmark if you like historic house tours and gardens, many of which are rarely open to the public.

Island Hall, Cambridgeshire

Tours are usually led by the owners, and you’ll hear fascinating stories about the heroic or villainous exploits of their ancestors or the joys and struggles of caring for a historic building. As honoured guests, you’ll be offered something to eat and drink – from a cream tea to lunch with wine – and have a chance to socialise with the rest of your group and the owner, who will be happy to answer all your questions.

On my list are Camfield Place a 13th century manor re-built by Beatrix Potters grandfather, then owned and lived in for over 30 years by Dame Barbara Cartland the prolific writer and step-grandmother to Princess Diana.Packington Hall with gardens by Capability Brown, Island Hall and Carleton Towers!

I could spend all day looking at the houses and learning about the history of these amazing places. There is something for everyone, especially if you love gardens.

Browse upcoming tours here and be sure to subscribe to the newsletter.

Looking for a Manor House?

Manor House and garden Buckley.

Do you like house tours? Me too, especially English cottages, castles and manor houses. This house is located just 3.5 miles from one of my favorite towns in the Cottswolds, Chipping Campden. It has 10 bedrooms so there is room for family and friends and an interesting history. The decor is not my style but hey, if I win the lottery and buy this house I guess I could get it redecorated.

You can see more of the house and details on Savillis.

  1. Sorry you are not feeling well. I live in SC and it seems as though large numbers of people here have been affected by “The Crude” as we are calling it. One theory is that all of the debris from Hurricane Helene has created mold and stuff we are breathing. Everyone I now, including me have been dealing with this for weeks! In fact, I thought thatI was 95% back, then came down with a nasty head cold – and back to square one! Sorry, co miracle cure – just hang in there!

  2. Oh dear, I think I had the same virus right after thanksgiving. I was VERY sick!
I went to the doc, because I was worried that I might have “walking pneumonia “ which was in the news. A doctor can do a swab to test for both Covid and flu. Between that, and carefully listening to my lungs, she determined that I had a virus, and there wasn’t anything to do but treat the symptoms. Ibuprofen, saltwater gargles, and Flonase before bed. Lots of herbal tea with honey.
Unfortunately, I ended up with a sinus infection, which was when I was prescribed antibiotics.
Being sick is just miserable! I hope you get better every day. Take good care!

  3. Sorry you’ve been sick. No, I haven’t been sick since I had Covid over a year ago. I am so spoiled that I now won’t even watch shows that have commercials. Ninety is a huge amount! I’ve read that book The Midnight Library.

    1. Thank you Brenda, I hope that you do not get sick either. You do not need this, it is crazy. Ninety commercials is a record amount and I am sure that they made record $$$.
      Have a great week Brenda.

  4. Elizabeth,

I hope you are on the mend? I am sick right now after taking care of my son for a week. He came for a visit and got sick the next bday. They said last week that that week or the prior, was the highest cases of flu in five years. I don’t know what will happen now that the NIH can’t inform us of these things…

I love this guide, Invitation to View and can’t wait to explore it. Thank you for sharing. I also adore Chipping Campden and we stayed there at a converted Malt House with our kids years ago. Love brownies more than most treats and these all look so good. How cute are all these cherry things?
Take care and feel better! xo

    1. THANK YOU KIM! I hope that you find something on Invitation to View to put on your schedule this summer. I cannot wait to hear more about your trip! It is going to be fabulous.
There is definitely something going around. My husband came home from a business trip and was sick 5 days and then I came down with it. I feel as if I have been down for the count for a month. Sorry that you are sick now too! I hope that you are up at at is soon.
Isn’t it funny the things that trend, I have no idea why cherries are trending but they are everywhere.
Have a fabulous week my friend. xo

  5. Elizabeth … so sorry for the delay in getting here. It was a busy weekend and I was felled by the flu. At least I think that’s what it is. I’m so sorry you’ve been hit by it too. I’ve heard it’s going around … and apparently that means going around everywhere. Anyway, I hope you’re taking it easy, and feeling a lot better. Also sorry for Bill and the Chief’s poor showing in the SB. Hope he’s liked his wounds and bounced back from the disappointment. These brownie recipes look so good … it must mean I’m bouncing back if I’m entertaining baking brownies. Yum! xo
