Monday Musings No. 165

Good morning friends! How was your weekend? We had a great weekend.

The good news is that our carpet is getting installed next Monday which is much sooner than we were expecting. It’s been one year since the tree fell on our house. The repairs ballooned into remodeling 2 bathrooms and a bunch of little things we added to our  contractors “to do” list. We can now see the light at the end of the tunnel and are hoping to have the house back together by the middle of May, I’ll keep you posted.

Sunday we went to mass then breakfast at the club. Then I spent 2 hours finishing my taxes for our appointment today. Thankfully that torture is over for another year. I am a procrastinator when it comes to taxes and other things I don’t like to do.

We ended the day outside in the sun working on a few of the beds in front of the house along with my wildflower meadow. I dug up some plants to divide and move to other areas and then planted one last container.

Next week I will be planting another “wildflower” meadow in my back yard. I am not sure how it will fare because it is on a deer path.

What did you do this weekend?

Ok, on to 5 Things!

1. Read~The Library

The Library book cover with a colorful stack of books.

I have read so many great books lately, and this is another one!

Two lonely bookworms. An unexpected friendship. A library that needs their help

Teenager Tom has always blended into the background of life. After a row with his dad and facing an unhappy future at the dog food factory, he escapes to the library.

Pensioner Maggie has been happily alone with her beloved novels for ten years – at least, that’s what she tells herself.

When they meet, they recognise something in each other that will change both their lives for ever.

Then the library comes under threat of closure, and they must join forces to prove that it’s not just about books – it’s the heart of their community.

  1. Hi Elizabeth,
So good you get out into the garden and play with the soil. Once your beds take off would you share your garden? I hope the deer stay away. I know how they like to graze, but it’s disheartening when they go after your garden.
Our rose bushes have taken off, they are doing so well. This weekend my “Honey Bear” shared bouquets with three of our neighbor friends. Our friend has her mother living with them in their casita. Mary will be 99 years young on June 29th. She still is walking and has so much hair to style. Gets her mani and pedi on a regular basis. I just marvel at her. Her favorite is a red rose, so we made sure she got plenty of “Opening Night.” It has a vintage look, the petals look like velvet. A elegant rose.
I love love love the ballet up. Swan Lake is my living favorite ballet. The theater is another love.
YAY, next Monday is a big day for you to look forward to. New carpet is a big pause to celebrate.

    1. Katherine, I hope that you have a wonderful weekend.
I too love the ballet and the opera and theatre. One of my favorite things to attend is an Early Music concert.
How wonderful that your husband shares your roses! What a treat to receive a bouquet. I am sure that Mary loves them. 99! That is wonderful. My mother in law who passed away in November was 97, she was an amazing woman and for the last year of her life lived with my sister in law. I would love my mother to live with me and hope that as she ages she considers it.
I will share some photos of my wildflowers, it may take a while but I am happy to share.
      Have a beautiful evening!

  2. I’d love to plant a wildflower meadow sometime. I’d rather have that than a grass lawn you have to keep mowing. But I’m unable to do that kind of digging anymore. I imagine you’ll want to have your renovations completed so you can spend time entertaining this summer.

    1. Brenda, my “meadow” is the circle in the middle of our driveway. I fondly call it my weed circle because not matter what it is covered in weeds. I have planted it with wildflowers twice and they were gorgeous. This year I am doing it again. Hopefully it will be pretty.

I cannot wait to have the house back in order, it is a struggle when there are boxes and piles of furniture everywhere.
      Have a wonderful week!

  3. Hi Elizabeth

I will be anxious to hear how your wildflower meadow does with the deer. The good news if they eat them, as long as they don’t uproot them they will come back!

    1. I had a wildflower for 2 years and the deer came every morning for breakfast to eat the zinnia. I gave up last year and decided to start over. I actually love the deer, my pups do not.
      Have a wonderful weekend Cindy.
