Today on the blog I am sharing a weekend update + 5 Things: what I read, watched, and discovered this weekend on Monday Musings.
Judy Blume, Jennifer Weiner and more on Monday Musings
Good morning friends, happy Monday Musings to you. How was your weekend?
Did you watch the Coronation? I did not watch it live but I did see bits and pieces online. I thought Princess Kate looked beautiful, as did Princess Charlotte. The pageantry, history, pomp and tradition in the UK is like no other that I have ever seen. If you are having a bank holiday today enjoy!
Saturday, my mom went back home to Wisconsin. It was so nice having her here, we cooked, shopped, read, went on a roadtrip and the list goes on and on. From the moment we finished sipping our morning coffee and cocoa our days were packed with fun and laughs. I miss her already and cannot wait for the next trip.
After my mom left, Bill and I took a long walk to the village and back home. By the end of the day we had over 20,000 steps logged. I love a nice long walk and the weather lately has been so beautiful. It is the calm before the long summer days of blistering heat and humidity.
Sunday we had a bit of a lie in, then another long walk . After that we spent the rest of the day catching up on a few things around the house and then an early night.
Enough about me, onto +5 Things.
1.Read
Golden Hills
Senatorial favorite Ida Berkowitz is headed for a win. Raised by a hardworking widowed mother, she’s authentic, relatable, and down-to-earth. Voters love her. Polls promise victory. Then her campaign manager utters four awful words: Who is Marissa Schuyler? She had almost managed to forget. Ida’s bunkmate at Camp Golden Hills when they were girls, Marissa was confident, sophisticated, and wealthy. Everything Ida wasn’t. Now the polished wife of a major conservative donor, Marissa’s announced a press conference. About Ida.
Just like that, Ida’s old insecurities come rushing in. So do new feelings of dread. After all these years, she knows what’s on Marissa’s mind. It could undermine everything Ida’s worked for. Because it isn’t very pretty.
2.Watched
Judy Blume Forever
I remember reading Are You There God, It’s Me Margaret as a teen, do you? If you are a fan of Judy you will love this documentary.

Happy Monday, Elizabeth! We watched the Coronation on Saturday and then the Coronation Concert from Windsor Castle last night. The television coverage was excellent. We also went to street party on Saturday for the Coronation which was great fun. I am glad you had a nice visit with your Mom. I always enjoy Monday Musings, and I was excited to learn about the Judy Blume documentary. I must see if I can find a place to watch it. I loved Judy’s books when I was growing up. Have a wonderful week!
I have been thinking about buying a dress. Can you believe I haven’t owned a dress for probably at least a decade???
Brenda
I love dresses! I cannot believe you haven’t owned one in so long. You need to add a couple to your wardrobe, they are so comfy, especially on hot days!
Love today’s articles to read. Definitely going to try to make Annie’s recipe.
Have a lovely week.
Thank you! Annie’s sandwich does look delicious! Have a wonderful week.
So many wonderful things to check out!
Thank you Bonnie, have a wonderful week.
Elizabeth, I enjoyed reading your Monday’s Musings. I did watch the Coronation and loved all of the traditions. Have a wonderful week!
Pam, I could not agree with you more, the pageantry and the traditions are so beautiful. I enjoyed the parts I was able to watch online. Have a wonderful week!
Loved the Atlantic article on Tom Hanks. My parents lived in N CA for 40 years, and I went to high school in Red Bluff (Hanks’s summer childhood home). My late parents were good friends with his mother Janet, and my younger brother was best friends with his younger brother. I never met Tom, but I’ve loved following his amazing career. I was a thespian of sorts in high school and college, and it was such a vicarious thrill to learn (through my mom, via his mom) that Tom had landed the part in Bosom Buddies.
Sarah, thank you for sharing that. Tom Hanks seems like a wonderful person, and I would guess a great friend. He is an amazing actor. I loved Bosom Buddies, I guess that ages me. Have a wonderful week!
Something at the coronation went viral as a meme. A cloaked figure walking through looked like the grim reaper.
A friend here asked if I was attending the coronation.
I saw that picture! It did indeed look like the grim reaper.
