Monday Musings No. 44

Monday Musings No. 44, what I read, watched, and found this weekend.

Good Monday morning musings friends. Happy Halloween! How was your weekend? Did you go to any Halloween parties or host one?

The weather here wasn’t the best but we made the best of it. After a bust week I was ready for a little bit of a rest and a catch up of all of the things that fell by the wayside.

Weekend Update

fighter plane

Saturday we went to an air show, my husband is a former pilot and loves planes. We wandered around the vintage planes and enjoyed to acrobatic stunts, as well as, the military helicopters that were there.

Then we went leaf peeping. It seems like overnight the leaves have turned into a rainbow or oranges, yellow and burgundy hues.   Mother Nature putting on a show to be sure. A trip to the farmers market, seafood shack and of course our favorite antique shop rounded out the day.

Sunday morning we made a pot of our favorite chili and set it to simmer for most of the day. It’s comforting scent wafting through the house signaled the start of nesting season at our house. On a side note, our favorite chili recipe is rom one of my all time favorite cookbooks Kitchen Revelry: A Year of Festive Menus, if you can find a copy I highly recommend it.

Fall cleaning was also on the list. Like spring cleaning we went from room to room , closet to closet. We are not finished but definitely made a dent in the work. Out with the old so that we can bring in the Christmas decor.

That’s it for me, now onto 5 things.

+5 THINGS

1.Watched

The Bookshop

The Bookshop is based up the book of the same name by Penelope Fitzgerald. I read the book some time ago and enjoyed both the book and the movie.

2. Read

Gilded Girl

I love historical fiction, it is always an easy, relaxing read.

When Eliza Chapman, a London ladies maid, learns that her real father is one of the richest men in New York City her whole world changes. He has sent a one-way ticket for her to join him, his mother and his two daughters at his palatial Manhattan mansion.

Eliza suddenly has her own ladies maid and learns that she is expected to find a husband. As the social season gets underway she is swept into a whirl of teas, luncheons, balls and other events.
But her sisters see her as unwelcome competition, which makes her feel even more like a fish out of water. And Eliza is in no rush to get married…to anyone.

As Eliza settles in she meets new people–among them Minnie–a brilliant married friend, who is a gifted and driven investor. Perhaps Eliza can aspire to more than just finding a husband?

A tragedy leads to a shocking turn of events and Eliza finds her world turned upside down, again.
