Monday Musings No. 199
Good morning friends, I hope that you had a lovely weekend. If you were traveling for Thanksgiving I hope that you made it home without any delays from the weather. My parents got 11 inches of snow, thankfully they stayed home this year.
The weather here was freezing, one morning it was 29! Sadly we didn’t get any snow. I have my fingers crossed that this year we see a measurable amount. A girl can dream.
Did you shop on Black Friday? Small Business Saturday or were you waiting for Cyber Monday? What did you buy? Anything fabulous?
Can you believe it’s December? Every year on December 1st I am surprised at how fast Fall went by. One minute the trees were changing colors, I was thinking about Christmas and bam, it’s over. I have so many things on my calendar this month that it will go by in a blur unless I make a conscious effort to slow down.
What are you most looking forward to this holiday season?
Time with family, friends, holiday movies, and baking my favorite recipes are just a few of the things I am looking forward to.
Over the next few weeks I will be sharing lots of sweet treats, cookies, candy, food gifts for family and friends, my favorite hot chocolate recipes and more. So be sure to come by and see what I am sharing daily.
I have lots to share today so let’s get to 5 Things.
1. Read~Mistletoe & Magic

Mulled wine, mince pies and a Yorkshire adventure…
Eva Coleman has lost her glow. She’s missed a well-deserved promotion at work and been left heartbroken at what she thought was a proposal dinner. Who the hell said this was ‘the most wonderful time of the year’?
Unable to face her family, Eva decides she needs a solo break to rediscover her passions and live life by her own rules. So, she swaps her Nashville hometown for a festive UK getaway.
Stumbling into an antiquarian bookshop, she discovers a book that might just bring her spark back and give her the adventure she’s been seeking…
Eva knows what it’s like to be left unheard, but can she be the person to finally tell this forgotten story, or is a grumpy Yorkshireman going to stand in her way?
Christmas Book for Adults

The Christmas Companion: Simple Recipes and Creative Ideas for a Magical Festive
I gifted this to myself because I love Christmas books!
From inimitable author Skye McAlpine, The Christmas Companion is a gorgeous wall-to-wall guide to an unfussy yet elegant Christmas to remember. With recipes both celebratory and deeply comforting that skew Italian, the book includes Christmas canon favorites like Ginger and Apricot Glazed Ham and Panettone Woodland Cake, edible gifts like Marzipan Fruits and Chocolate Salami, and foolproof menus for every event-from two-person romantic dinners to blowout cocktail parties or Christmas lunch for twenty. But like any holiday devotee, Skye knows the preparation is half the fun. In The Christmas Companion, she also gives her best tips for creating the perfect holiday space: guides to making Candy Cane Heart Ornaments and “playing Santa,” how to make your own Christmas crackers, and the most beautiful ways to decorate the Christmas table.

4. SHOPPING BREAK~Cyber Monday Sales
Every store that has a website is having a sale. I don’t have much shopping left to do but I saw a few things at Quince that I think will make great gifts.

The Italian leather bags are beautiful, this one, this one and this one are some of my favorites.

This cashmere sweater and these slippers are in my cart.

If you are mad for plaid like me it is all 50% off today at Talbots! There are shoes, pants, skirts, and more which are all perfect to wear for the holidays but all winter long.

This morning I ordered these plaid pjs.

Both of my Christmas trees are on sale! Even if you already have your tree up this is a great time to prepare for next year! I have the 6 ft. Noble Fir and the 9ft flocked.

On My Radar

Hi Elizabeth,
I have left you many messages then they disappear before it’s been
happening for over a week. Also your blog messages do not come through well on my iPhone, it’s the strangest thing. I have less of an issue on my desk top computer, where I’m communicating with you right now.
Cold you send me your Cranberry Walnut Bread, where I can just “Jump to
the Recipe?” Thx, I appreciate it.
Hello Katherine,
I am sorry that you are having issues with the blog. I will ask my tech guy to take a look and see if he can see what may be causing that.
I send you an email with a link to the recipe. I hope it is the one that you are looking for.
Have a wonderful night,
Elizabeth
