Memorial Day, Coco & Dash co-owner Teddie Garrigans’ house tour, the Apothecary’s daughter, a weekend update and more on Monday musings.

Monday Musings
Good morning friends. It’s Memorial Day, a day set aside to honor and mourn the men and women who fought and died for our freedom. Sometimes the true meaning of the day is lost as we celebrate the “unofficial” start to summer. Don’t forget to take a moment to pay tribute to these heroes.
It was a cold, rainy weekend. I think the high was 56. The car show, polo match and any other outdoor fun was a wet soggy mess. We kitted up Saturday in wellies and rain gear to check out the villages activities. After 20 minutes we gave up and took shelter in the bookstore with a warm drink.
Sunday it was more of the same, although a little warmer. Most of the day was spent huddled in a blanket with a pile of magazines and a book. To be honest, I didn’t mind at all, it was relaxing. Then a friend came for dinner and it was a nice way to end the weekend. I just feel sorry for all of the people who traveled to have fun for the weekend and it ended up a washout.
Today, no surprise it is raining and gray but we are headed to a barbecue. I am in the kitchen whipping up a few treats and Bill is putting the finishing touches on his sauce for the pulled pork he smoked yesterday.
What are you plans for today? A local parade, day at the beach or a barbecue? If you need a last minute dessert here are 10 that everyone will love.
Enough about me, onto +5 Things.
+5 THINGS
1.Read
Susannah Leyton has grown up behind the counter of her father’s apothecary shop, surrounded by the resinous scents of lavender, rosemary, liquorice and turpentine. More learned than any apprentice, she concocts soothing medicines and ointments with great skill. Content with her life, Susannah is shocked when her widowed father announces his intentions to marry again, and later becomes caught in a battle of wills with her new step-mother.
When she receives a proposal of marriage from handsome and charming merchant Henry Savage, she believes her prayers have been answered and resolves to be a good wife to him. But Henry is a complex and troubled man, haunted by his memories of growing up in Barbados. As the plague sweeps through the city, tragedy strikes, and the secrets of Henry’s past begin to unfold …
