Advent calendar and two advent books

Weekend Meanderings

Good Saturday morning friends. It’s time for Weekend Meanderings with Kim, Juliet os taking a few weeks off but will be back soon. Join us as we share all of the things that piqued our interests and caught our eye this week.

Happy St. Nick! Did you find your stocking or boot filled with candy and small gifts this morning? Have you been counting the days with your Advent calendar?

Speaking of Advent, every year I pull out two of my favorite books for the holidays, Advent: Recipes and crafts for the countdown to Christmas and Advent: Festive German Bakes to Celebrate the Coming of Christmas both are filled with stories, crafts and lots of recipes that I use year after year. My grandparents were German and I try to make a few of the things that my mom remembers from her childhood.

Whew I am tired. December is a whirlwind of lunches, cocktail parties, cookie parties, tree lightings and it’s only the first week. I was every day and night this week, it was fun but if I keep up this pace I won’t make it to Christmas.

Today we are home and I plan on reading, napping and baking. Then tonight I have a few holiday movies planned. Tomorrow we are going to a concert.

What are your weekend plans? What fun Christmas activities have you been enjoying?

Ok, let’s meander.

House Tours

Mimi Thorisson~Home Tour

Cookbook author Mimi Thorisson welcomes House & Garden into her Turin apartment at Christmas, set inside a 19th-century palazzo, where old-world architecture harmonises with the warmth of a large, cosmopolitan family.

Forevergreen

An orphaned bear cub finds a home with a fatherly evergreen tree, until his hunger for trash leads him to danger. “Forevergreen” is an animated short film and after-hours passion project created entirely by a crew of over 200 dedicated Artists and Technicians who all generously donated their free time and talent to bring every frame of the film to life. The production took over 5 years to complete. Featuring never before seen animation techniques and handmade artistry, weaving art and technology together with heart and humor. Directed by Nathan Engelhardt and Jeremy Spears, “Forevergreen” opens to the world in 2025.

I love the Christmas windows in NY and Paris, and London and anywhere else that still decorates them.

French At Heart~Cooks Atelier

After running our cooking school in Burgundy for over 15 years, we’ve learned that being French at heart isn’t about where you live or what language you speak. It’s about slowing down, savoring small moments, and bringing people together around your table with intention and love. In French At Heart, we invite you into our home at the Woodland House, sharing the simple, joyful meals we cook for our family and the philosophy that guides everything we do: choosing quality ingredients, cooking seasonally, and always—always—spreading the love.

I have been a fan of the mother daughter team duo Marjorie Taylor and Kendall Smith Franchini behind Cooks Atelier for years and love their cookbooks. Unfortunately I have not been to their cooking school yet but I have several friends that have attended and highly recommend.

Or read their books, the cookbooks, The Cooks Atelier, or the newest French at Heart. I have both and have also given them for gifts. They are both beautiful cookbooks with delicious recipe, photos and stories.

Paul Tazewell~Wicked Costume Designer

If you’ve ever been swept away by the worlds of “Wicked,” “Hamilton” or “West Side Story,” you’ve seen Paul Tazewell’s breathtaking costumes. The Oscar-winning designer (whose work features in “Wicked: For Good”) explores the subconscious language of clothing and how it shapes who we view as heroes — and who we view as villains.

Store House of the V & A Museum

If you love the V&A museum you are going to want to purchase Storehouse on your list of things to see when next in London.

The Victoria and Albert East Storehouse, a warehouse that holds items unable to fit in the renowned British museum’s main space, offers the public a rare glimpse at history,  including David Bowie’s trousers and an enormous Picasso piece.
