FRIDAY FAVORITES NO. 640

Good morning friends!  We had a fabulous week with my family. As I mentioned last week my mom was visiting and we were going non-stop from morning till night. They have gone back home and this weekend I think we will be taking a little rest and catching up on all the things that went by the wayside.

Sunday is Father’s Day will you be spending it with your dad? Sadly I won’t be seeing my dad this weekend but hopefully soon.

How was your week? What are your weekend plans?

I have lots to share today on Friday Favorites so let’s get to it.

BOOKS~ ON MY LIST AND MY BEDSIDE TABLE

Letters From Skye Book cover.

Letters From Skye

A sweeping story told in letters, spanning two continents and two world wars, Jessica Brockmole’s atmospheric debut novel captures the indelible ways that people fall in love, and celebrates the power of the written word to stir the heart.

March 1912: 24-year-old Elspeth Dunn, a published poet, has never seen the world beyond her home on Scotland’s remote Isle of Skye. So she is astonished when her first fan letter arrives, from a college student, David Graham, in far-away America. As the two strike up a correspondence – sharing their favorite books, wildest hopes, and deepest secrets – their exchanges blossom into friendship, and eventually into love. But as World War I engulfs Europe and David volunteers as an ambulance driver on the Western front, Elspeth can only wait for him on Skye, hoping he’ll survive.

June 1940: At the start of World War II, Elspeth’s daughter, Margaret, has fallen for a pilot in the Royal Air Force. Her mother warns her against seeking love in wartime, an admonition Margaret doesn’t understand. Then, after a bomb rocks Elspeth’s house, and letters that were hidden in a wall come raining down, Elspeth disappears. Only a single letter remains as a clue to Elspeth’s whereabouts. As Margaret sets out to discover where her mother has gone, she must also face the truth of what happened to her family long ago.

A Breath of French Air book cover.

A Breath of French Air

At summer’s end, rain clouds hovering over Kent have some in the Larkin household feeling under the weather in more ways than one. Ma is exhausted from nursing newborn Oscar, and Mariette needs a break.

Meanwhile, Mariette’s husband, Charley, reminisces about delightful summers spent in Brittany during his youth. It was inexpensive, the food was marvelous, the air was warm and sultry, and they would almost never see a drop of rain. And with that, Ma persuades Pop to take a holiday in France.

But when the Larkin clan arrives in the village of St. Pierre le Port, it is vastly different from Charley’s memories. It is raining, the food is awful, the hotel is run-down, and the manager is rather nasty. The Larkins normally find joy in the little things in life, but they have never dealt with a vacation like this . . .

The Last Voyage of Mrs Henry Parker book cover with two old fashion cloth lawn chairs and two turtles.

The Last Voyage of Mrs. Henry Parker

As the wife of retired ship’s doctor Dr Henry Parker, Evelyn is living out her twilight years aboard the Golden Sunset. Every night she dresses for dinner – gown, tiara, runners – and regales her fellow passengers with stories of a glamorous life travelling the world in luxury, as well as showing off her superior knowledge of everything from ships’ customs to biographical details of her heroine, Florence Nightingale. The crew treat her with deference. And forbearance.

But when Henry goes missing, Evelyn sets off to search every part of the grand ocean liner to find him, casino, nightclub and off-limits areas included.

Misadventures are had, new friends are made, scandalous behaviour noted – all news to Evelyn. If only she could remember the events of the night before as clearly as she can recall the first time she met Henry on a passage from England to Australia in 1953 and fell in love, abandoning her dreams to become a midwife to be a wife instead – and the long-ago painful events that left Evelyn all at sea.

SHOPPING~OUTFIT OF THE DAY

French inspired Summer Outfit Fashion over 50 with a white skirt, black and white stripe shirt, black ballet flats, perfume, pearl earrings and a black cross body bag.

This week I am sharing a French inspired summer outfit that is effortless and chic. Not to mention that you probably already have many if not all of these separates in your closet. A white midi shirt goes with everything and can be dressed up or down, here I paired it with a stripe t-shirt but you could also wear a sweater or blouse. Black ballet flats are classic and comfortable but you could add a pop of color like red, fuchsia, orange or yellow.

As for the bag, a crossbody is my choice but a wicker tote or a small clutch works too.
